I’m Ray Bassett and I wish to be your Mayor. I believe that I can provide new leadership and direction to the council. I would encourage positive participation to provide good services and actively plan for the future growth of our areas.
Hauraki is a small district with great potential. As many of our ratepayers have found it difficult coping with recent large rate increases, I propose to cap the 2008 rates and ask the new council to re-evaluate council spending and priorities to look for greater savings and efficiencies. A new long term plan will be prepared which will take into account the position of our ratepayers. I would re-introduce committees to do council business. Decisions are better made if they are fully evaluated at committee level before being formally considered by council. I will be your full time Mayor who will be available to listen to your concerns.

I would, once again, like to represent you as your Mayor.
When I look back at what I wished to achieve three years ago I believe I have delivered. Hauraki is now in a positive growth mode and a platform has been developed upon which to continue to build our community. Improving the social wellbeing of the community through the provision of infrastructure and resources, and working with central government departments to improve the delivery of services, whether it’s policing, health or education, is one area in which I would continue to focus. Land development, the increasing and upgrading of infrastructure, and recycling, are also among the important issues for our region. My experience, leadership and commitment to the community remains, and, with your support, I would like to lead the elected council for a further term.
