GENERAL BUSINESS
The Chairman welcomed everyone to the meeting and outlined that the purpose of the meeting was to identify the best means of tangata whenua involvement with the Water and Wastewater Consultative Committee.
B Somers gave a presentation detailing the status of Council’s water and waste water consents, the environmental issues and funding issues relating to renewing a large group of these consents within one year and the investigation work undertaken to date.
B Somers then described the document that formed the basis for Council’s strategy to renew its water and wastewater resource consents.
A general discussion followed including the most appropriate means of Iwi involvement in the Committee.
Key points from the general discussions were:
A District wide map showing the location each of the schemes and consents would assist.
That a report be presented to the next meeting detailing the consents currently being processed and those that are about to be started.
That both the local and holistic impacts from consents need to be considered.
Council cannot afford to improve everything at once and a long-term strategy has to be developed.
That a Committee structure similar to the Paeroa Sewage Treatment Committee was agreeable to all parties present.
That each of the Iwi is invited to have one nominated representative on the Committee and a nominated deputy if that person cannot attend.
That the Iwi representatives form part of Water and Wastewater Consultative Committee.
That meeting fees for the Iwi representatives would be the same as paid to Councillors. Currently $110 per meeting plus reasonable transport cost. This fee can be paid directly to the Iwi should that be requested.
That the next meeting will be on the 5 September 2000 starting 10:00 am.
T Nicholls closed the meeting with a Karakia whakamutunga.
Meeting ended 12:00 pm.
