MATTERS ARISING FROM MINUTES
Waitakaruru School
The Utilities Manager advised that contact had been made with the Ministry of Education and the Principal of the Waitakaruru School regarding the long term situation of the school and the sewage proposal. Further meetings would be held.
Low River Flows
It was noted that there was erosion to the concrete reinforcing in part of the river through the Waikino Gorge. This may have been caused by the low river flow.
The Utilities Manager advised that this was the responsibility of Transit New Zealand but would investigate the matter further.
The Utilities Manager updated the Committee on the low river flows throughout the district.
GENERAL BUSINESS
WAIHI WATER CONSENT RENEWAL (43.603.017)
A meeting with Ngati Tamatera had been held on 1 March 2001 to discuss several issues they had raised.
WAITAKARURU SEWAGE DISCHARGE CONSENT (42.004.017)
A consultant had been engaged to investigate in detail the pumping to Ngatea option. An on site meeting was to be held.
WAIHI BORE WATER INVESTIGATION (43.603.003)
The consultants reports had not been received. The delay was due to efforts to locate an intensive study undertaken by a university student for their doctorate on the movement of ground water in the Waihi basin. The study had been undertaken but not published and the researcher had left the country. The University still holds the information.
WATER TAKE RESOURCE CONSENTS (43.000.017)
Hock Yeo and Sue Ruston from Meritec attended the meeting and presented information on each of the water take consents and discussed the basis by which each consent is to be lodged. The Iwi consultation meeting on the 1 March would assist in the final proposals.
A report outlining the presentation was tabled at the meeting.
The presentation covered decisions made on the following water supplies:

WAIHI SEWERAGE JETFLOTE TRIAL (42.601.017)
The Utilities Manager advised that the production of the report comparing the Jetflote option with the land disposal option had been delayed to permit more accurate information to be provided by a contractor. The report was tabled at the meeting.
The Utilities Manager took the Committee through the report and discussed various issues.
The Utilities Manager commented that at the next meeting he would have a recommendation on what the best option would be for the Waihi Sewerage.
The Chairman recommended that members take the report away and read it and further discussion would be held at the next meeting.
Photographs of the Jetflote trial were shown to members to help obtain a better understanding of the system.
The Utilities Manager gave an explanation of how the Jetflote System worked. There were several operational sites but they were all situated in Australia.
