REPORTS
UTILITIES MANAGER’S REPORT (42.000.017, 43.000.017)
A report from the Utilities Manager was attached.
RESOLVED
THAT the report be received.
CCWW02/22 Carmine/Corlett CARRIED
Turua AEE (42.003.017)
Attached to the agenda for information was the lodged AEE for renewing the Turua STRP discharge consent.
As a result of the public notification, one submission had been received from Ngati Maru.
The Utilities Manager advised that as part of the consent process a number of options needed to be looked at. He explained the options investigated and the most preferred.
Water Treatment (43.000.005)
His Worship commented that it should be noted the direction that the Ministry of Health was taking regarding rural water supplies, consumed by stock. The standard would have to be very high, the same as in a metropolitan area and the costs would be considerable. Council could not divest itself of this but owners would still have a responsibility to meet this standard.
Ministry of Health: Subsidies
Attached to the agenda was a press release from Hon Annette King regarding subsidy for sewerage schemes and fluoridation.
The subsidy was aimed for communities between 100 to 10,000 people. Of the Hauraki District Council communities this could assist, Waitakaruru sewerage would have the greatest need, with Turua and Kerepehi also being possibilities.
As pressure grows to have better onsite sewage treatment than septic tanks, then Council may have to consider installing sewerage systems in the non-reticulated communities of Waikino, Karangahake and Mackaytown.
Site Visit Paeroa WWTP
The Utilities Manager advised that a site visit to the Paeroa Sewerage Treatment Plant would be held after the September 2002 meeting.
The Utilities Manager advised that the Paeroa Sewerage Treatment Plan had won the IPENZ (Auckland Branch) Arthur Moad award for Environmental Engineering Excellence.
RESOLVED
THAT congratulations be given to all those involved in the Paeroa Sewerage Treatment Plant.
