MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE WATER AND WASTES HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON TUESDAY 4 FEBRUARY 2002 COMMENCING AT 10.10 A.M.

PRESENT His Worship the Mayor (B J Morrison) (from 11.10 am until 11.50 am), Cr S Baker (Chairperson), Crs Carmine (until 11.55 am), Munro, Trembath, W Peters (Ngati Maru Runanga), C Reidy (Ngati Maru Runanga), R Brownlee (Te Ruunanga A Iwi O Ngati Tamatera), B Clarkin (Ngati Hako), A Anderson (Ngati Hako), O Morgan (Waihi Section Royal Forest & Bird Society), R Corlett (Federated Farmers)

W Peters opened the meeting with a Karakia timatanga.

RESOLVED

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Consultative Committee Water and Wastes held on Tuesday 8 October 2002 be taken as read and confirmed.

REPORTS

UTILITIES MANAGER’S REPORT (42.000.017/43.000.017)

A report from the Utilities Manager was attached.

Videos

The Utilities Manager showed a video called: Blue Print for Safe Drinking Water.

A question and answer session followed.

Solid Waste

Waste Exchange

Attached for information were two pages of items the Waste Exchange organisation detailing how wastes for one Company were being used by another.

Discussion was held regarding the promotion of waste minimisation and what Hauraki District Council was doing to move towards this.

Recycling Options for Ngatea

His Worship attended the meeting at 11.10 am.

The option of a twice monthly kerb side newspaper and cardboard collection was being investigated.

There was concern that a kerbside collection would only focus on the urban areas and not to those in the rural areas.

Ngatea Greenwaste Collection Site

The Utilities Manager advised that the possibility of providing a greenwaste disposal facility inside the premises of Schuler Concrete had been discussed. The report outlined the requirements to get the site into operation. No funds had been provided in the current budget.

Sewerage

Septage Disposal Allen United Mackaytown

Notification had been received from Allens United that they wished to renew their resource consents for their operation at Mackaytown. Further information had been requested from them.

Waitakaruru Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrading

A public meeting had been held at Waitakaruru in early December and further investigations were continuing into developing a new sewerage treatment plant.

A video was shown called Decentralised Wastewater Management.

The Utilities Manager advised that the system shown on the video was what was being looked at for Waitakaruru. Four suitable sites all large enough for a new treatment plant sized to service all of Waitakaruru were being considered.

His Worship left the meeting at 11.50 am.

Cr Carmine left the meeting at 11.55 am.

The meeting closed at 12.15 pm.
