WATER SUPPLY

Waikino

It was noted that there has been an increase in water volume used by the Waikino area. Discussion on the cause for the increased use was discussed. It was suggested that the demand is possibly due to the increase in the population in the area or that water is being lost due to a maintenance problem in the system. A review of the reticulation system may need to be carried out if this demand continues to increase.

Paeroa

There has been a notable increase in water volume usage in Paeroa due to the streetscape project.

Pipe Maintenance

The members were advised of the new water main installed in Kaihere Road due to the degradation of the piping.

Part of the cast iron main has been removed for analysis in Pipiroa Road, Ngatea to ascertain what is causing the breakdown of the piping.

MAJOR CAPITAL PROJECTS

Kerepehi Treated Water Storage

A geotechnical survey has been undertaken. Core samples have been taken and analysed to ascertain the viability of the site for future water storage. A report will be presented to Council on the upgrade in November.

Kerbside refuse Collection

It was advised that recycling quantities have increased, indicating there is real benefit to the process.

Recyclable Waste

Newmont Waihi Gold has requested a large quantity of green waste for use as mulch for their works rehabilitation programme.

Staff are presently investigating better ways to improve Councils in-house recycling process.

A waste processing company, Transpacific, owners of (Recycle NZ) has approached Council to take and treat the oils, batteries and other contaminated waste.
