MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
Compaction of Refuse/Green Waste
In the compaction trial using a small excavator a high degree of compaction has been achieved with the green waste but less successful with the refuse. More investigation and experimenting needs to be done to see if compaction at times during the day achieves more worthwhile results than if it is only done at the end of the day.

Waitakaruru Off-stream Storage
After a meeting with CH2M Beca Ltd it was considered that the quarry option should be pursued further, including a fuller evaluation of the quarry option, considering quarry management during development and ongoing operation of the water storage. Various Councillors requested reassurance that previous work already carried out on the quarry option was not being duplicated or ignored. This assurance was provided.

Paeroa Refuse Transfer Station
The present contract operation at the Paeroa Refuse Transfer Station is to be terminated as at the 10th August 2004 and it will become a council operation.

The financial report on works and services activity accounts for the 10 months ended 30 June 2004 were presented for the members’ information.

GENERAL BUSINESS
REQUEST FOR FUNDING ASSISTANCE (01.000.020)

Attached was a report from the Chief Executive regarding a request for financial assistance towards a road upgrade required for a proposed industrial subdivision off Coronation Road, Paeroa.
RESOLVED
THAT the report be received
AND THAT the Council contribute $20,000 towards the cost of the road upgrading and fund this as district non subsidised roading.

LATE ITEMS
The District Engineer recommended that a letter be sent to Transit NZ acknowledging the safety benefits of the new construction undertaken to State Highway 2 at Netherton.

THAT a letter be written to Transit NZ in appreciation of the work done to State Highway 2 at Netherton.
