MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE EASTERN PLAINS DRAINAGE DISTRICT COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON TUESDAY 26 OCTOBER 2004 COMMENCING AT 10.00 AM

CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES

RESOLVED

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Eastern Plains Drainage District Committee held on Tuesday 24 August 2004 be taken as read and confirmed.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

Green Drain, McCallum Property

Members asked if discussions had been held with the neighbouring property owners to the McCallum’s concerning a solution to the ongoing flooding occurring on the property. It was considered that a solution to the problem would be to undertake a minor realignment of the Green Drain across the property to allow for better drainage of the low area of the property. The Local member reported that the adjoining owner was agreeable to the proposal. Final details will be discussed with him.

DRAINAGE REPORT (45.498.002)

The monthly report from the Drainage Manager was attached for the Committee’s consideration

Maintenance/Fencing/Culverts

The Drainage Manager reported on the culvert maintenance which has been carried out this month. Culvert blockages cleared at Hamilton Road and SH 25 at Kopuarahi. The fence on the McMillan drain has been re-erected. Two gates for access for machine cleaning in the Kaikahu North Road area have been installed. The access culvert in Old Netherton Road has been lowered and headwalls repaired.

Netherton School Culvert

It was advised that the Netherton School culvert has been cleared again. Photographs will need to be taken to help investigate the cause of the blockages. Due to the poor weather conditions recently, it has been unsuitable for these photographs to be taken.

Turua Town Piping

The Drainage Manager updated the members on the design and programmed construction for the reach of drain from Bagnall Square to Awa Street, Turua.

Weed Cleaning

The Drainage Overseer advised that blockages had been cleared at caused by slips at Awaiti Road.

FINANCIAL REPORT (45.498.003)

The financial report for the 3 months ended 30 September 2004 was attached for the members information.

RESOLVED

THAT the financial report on the operations of the Eastern Plains Drainage Committee for the 3 months ended 30 September 2004 be received.

EPDD04/23 Martin/Schouten CARRIED

GENERAL BUSINESS

Guy Speedy raised an issue regarding Mrs Wenzlick’s request for construction of drainage to alleviate flooding at rear of her property at Turua. The Drainage Overseer will meet with the property owner for further discussion on this matter.

MEMBERS’ COMMENTS

Roger Hunter – the drain on the western side of Orongo Road needs to have the debris cleared.

Kim Reid – is pleased with the condition of the culverts. H Drain is in need of maintenance due to underwater weed taking hold. The Drainage Overseer will investigate the maintenance of this drain.

Drainage Committee Elections

The Drainage Manager informed the meeting that the elections of members to the District Drainage Committees will be held in February 2005.

The meeting closed at 11.00am.
