GENERAL BUSINESS

Kaikahu Road - Piping

Discussion was held regarding approval for a proposed access way in Kaikahu Road which would able to be constructed when the piping was completed.

Netherton School

It was asked if the Netherton School had responded to the request from Council regarding the blocking of the access culvert from School Road. The Drainage Manager stated that, to date, no response has been received from the school.

MEMBERS’ COMMENTS

Kevin Caddy commented that the Langdon Drain D10, was deeper than the culverts and did not require cleaning. The Harris-Caddy drain did also not need cleaning at this stage.

Peter Schouten stated that the berm between the Awaiti Canal and South Catchment Drain could be available for stopbank material. Environment Waikato is to be notified.

Doug Martin noted that the Awaiti Roadside Drain has dead weed that could be a potential for blockage.

LATE ITEM

Jordan Subdivision

The Drainage Manager reported that a subdivision application has been received from landowners (Jordan) on Makumaku Road. The developer proposed to utilise the roadside drain for the severed house lot. The usual alternative has been to require an easement over the servient lot for drainage. In this case, the easement would be over 900m long. An alternative is to take over the roadside drain as a Council drain, and abandon an existing drain. This would involve an additional 400m of Council drain. The Committee considered that the existing roadside drain will serve for drainage of the severed lot, as the ground level in the vicinity is relatively high. The situation can be reviewed in the future if the roadside drain does not provide for land drainage.

It was requested that the Drainage Manager discuss the request with the Drainage Overseer.

The meeting closed at 11.20am.
