RESOLVED
THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Eastern Plains Drainage District Committee held on Wednesday 28 June 2006 be taken as read and confirmed.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
Piping at Turua School
A letter has been written to the Turua School advising that the section of drain on the south side of Raratuna Street is not a Council drain, but that it may be considered for piping following discussions with the Turua Hall Committee due to be held in October. It was noted that there had been some removal of flax and other vegetation which is some of the problem with vermin and poor drainage.

It was advised that the piping of this drain will commence within the next few days.

The financial report for the 12 months ended 30 June 2006 was presented for members’ information.
RESOLVED
THAT the financial report on the operations of the Eastern Plains Drainage Committee for the 12 months ended 30 June 2006 be received.

Operating Statement
It was commented that more explanation is required in the cashflow statement to assist in identifying depreciation and interest items.
Members Caddy, Reid and Schouten attended the meeting at 2.30pm.
GENERAL BUSINESS
Resignation of Steve Clark from position of Drainage Overseer
The Chairperson expressed the appreciation on behalf of himself and the Committee to Steve Clark for his services to the District Drainage Committees and for the ongoing support he has provided to the farming community over his past 19 years in the position.
It was decided that all of the District Drainage Committee members be invited to a function to be held at the Ngatea Hotel to show their appreciation for Steve’s efforts over the years and to wish him well in his new role within Council.
MEMBERS’ COMMENTS
The Members were invited to comment on any general drainage issues of interest in their areas.
Guy Speedy advised that the drain behind the houses on Orchard Road East towards the sale yards has been cleaned.
It was advised that the prolific growth of weed at the junction of Fisher and School Roads will be checked by Drainage Overseer.
Roger Hunter advised that the culvert at Orongo Road is blocked.
Ian Troughton advised that at the end of Fisher Road the drain is filling up with water. The Drainage Overseer advised this is programmed for cleaning.
The meeting closed at 3.30pm.
