MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE EASTERN PLAINS DRAINAGE DISTRICT COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON WEDNESDAY 28 JUNE 2006 COMMENCING AT 1.30PM.

RESOLVED

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Eastern Plains Drainage District Committee held on Wednesday 26 April 2006 be taken as read and confirmed.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

Drainage Committee Elections

Discussion was held as the nomination of one more member to the Committee. Kim Reid advised that he had been contacted by a prospective candidate indicating he may be interested in becoming a member of the Committee. Mr Reid will follow up.

The monthly report from the Drainage Manager was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

THAT the report be received.

Piping of Open Drain, Raratuna Street, Turua

The Drainage Manager outlined the request received from a resident of No. 37 Raratuna Street, Turua requesting that Council pipe an open portion of the drain on the western side of her property. It was advised that Mrs Western has agreed to contribute to a quarter share of the cost. The Committee was requested to approve this work to be undertaken.

RESOLVED

THAT the 20m length of open drain at No 37 Raratuna Street Turua be piped with 450mm RRJRC pipe, at an estimated cost of $4,000, provided the adjoining owner meets one quarter of the cost, being $1,000 (plus GST).

Piping of Open Drain between Matai Street and Mill Creek Drain

The Drainage Manager outlined the requirement to pipe the open length of drain south of Matai Street to the Mill Creek Drain, Turua. It is a reach of drain agreed with the Turua Hall Committee as a priority. Discussions will be held with the Turua Hall Committee to finalise this project. The Committee were requested to consider the approval of this piping to be undertaken.

RESOLVED

THAT the piping of the 150m length of open drain between Matai Street and the Mill Creek Drain be discussed with the Turua Hall Committee, with a view to completing the piping in the 2006-07 financial year.

Piping of Open Drain, Town Road, Kerepehi

The Drainage Manager outlined a request received from two adjoining owners on Town Road, Kerepehi, to pipe the open drain adjacent to their boundary. The owners have advised they are willing to contribute to the piping of the drain. It was requested that the Committee agree ‘in principle’ for this work to be undertaken.

The Drainage Manager advised that the probable cost would be comparable to the Raratuna Street job, ie approximately $4,000.00.

RESOLVED

THAT the committee approve in the piping of 32m of open drain adjacent to Town Road, Kerepehi, with 300mm diameter RRJRC pipe, at an estimated cost of $4,000, on the basis that the adjoining owners contribute one quarter of the cost of the job, being $1,000.00 (plus GST).

FINANCIAL REPORT (45.498.003)

The financial report for the 11 months ended 31 May 2006 was presented for the members’ information.

RESOLVED

THAT the financial report on the operations of the Eastern Plains Drainage Committee for the 11 months ended 31 May 2006 be received.

GENERAL BUSINESS

MEMBERS’ COMMENTS

The Members commented on general drainage issues of interest in their areas.

Peter Schouten – commented on the consultation document from Environment Waikato regarding the proposed consent for river and canal maintenance. Council has received the same document for comment.

Kim Reid – drains by Awaiti Road seem clear. It was requested that the Drainage Overseer look at the drain north of the school alongside the state highway.

The meeting closed at 2.50pm.
