MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE EASTERN PLAINS DRAINAGE DISTRICT COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL OFFICE, ORCHARD ROAD, NGATEA ON WEDNESDAY 29 AUGUST 2007 COMMENCING AT 1.30PM

Appointment of Chairperson

Due to the absence of the Chairperson (I D Troughton) and Deputy Chairperson (K J Reid), Roger Hunter was appointed Chairperson for the meeting.

CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES

MEETING HELD WEDNESDAY 27 JUNE 2007

RESOLVED

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Eastern Plains Drainage District Committee held on Wednesday 27 June 2007 be taken as read and confirmed.

DRAINAGE REPORT (45.498.002) ( 29KB)

The monthly report from the Drainage Manager was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received.

Spraying

Roger Hunter advised of a discrepancy he noted in the spray programme. The contractor has possibly not sprayed the entire length of his drain.

It was noted by other members that there were some other discrepancies in the spraying programme statistics for their areas.

Pump Generators

Discussion was held regarding the use of portable diesel generators in the situation of power outages.

July Storm Event

Discussion was held regarding the July storm event. There was concerns raised that the Power Company does not reinstate the power supply within a reasonable time period. Pumps cannot function and drains are not cleared.

It was advised that the recent strong winds was the cause of the power failure of the Hauraki Plains.

Roger Hunter advised of debris found in the Cox floodgate following the storm.

Bylaw Review

The Drainage Manager advised of the Drainage Bylaw Review Workshop which is to be held on Tuesday 4th of September.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT (45.498.003)

The financial report for the 12 months ended 30 June 2007 was presented for members’ information.

RESOLVED

THAT the financial report on the operations of the Eastern Plains Drainage Committee for the 12 months ended 30 June 2007 be received.

GENERAL BUSINESS

MEMBERS’ COMMENTS

Kevin Caddy - advised that water coming over the weir on his property has been caused by blockage caused by EW lack of maintenance.

The Drainage Overseer has dug out and cleared material causing blockage and has formed a drain around secondary weir. The Drainage Overseer will speak with Ian Sara of EW regarding the matter.

The meeting closed at 2.30pm.
