Meeting with Turua Hall Committee

The Chairman, Cr Gordon and the Drainage Manager attended the Turua Domain and Hall Committee meeting on 13 October 2009. The Committee’s input to the capital works programme in Turua was sought.

Preference was expressed for piping the drain in front of the Domain and on Hauraki Road north to Rata Street.

The Committee was also advised of the rationale behind the change from land drainage to stormwater rating and the consequent rate increases due to the town being required to fund the stormwater operations. Depreciation costs are a significant component of the stormwater total.

Cr Gordon raised the issue of disposal stormwater from the Turua Hall. This matter will be investigated.

GENERAL BUSINESS

MEMBERS’ COMMENTS

The members were invited to comment on any general drainage issues of interest in their areas.

Kevin Caddy – noted that pump hours appeared to be high considering the average rainfall.

The Drainage Manager explained that although rainfall was around average, the falls were of short duration and relatively high intensity.

Roger Hunter – queried the disconnection of the roadside drain due to Kopu Bridge realignment. The drain in question is not a Council drain and the owner will need to negotiate the issue with the bridge contractors.

The meeting closed at 2.30pm.
