CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES

MEETING HELD 25 MARCH 2002

The minutes of the meeting of the Komata North Drainage District Committee held on 25 March 2002 were attached.

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Komata North Drainage District Committee held on 25 March 2002 be taken as read and confirmed.

DRAINAGE MANAGER’S REPORT

The Drainage Manager’s report was attached for the Committee’s consideration.

Mechanical Cleaning

An on site meeting would be arranged to remove some trees and pampas growth from the upper Kurere Stream.

Pump Operation

There were some problems experienced with the diesel generator at Alexander’s in January. The problems were minor and have been rectified by Environment Waikato

Concern regarding weed in the grill in the Kurere pump during recent heavy rain in January 2003. The problem was with under water weed and this may have to be sprayed. The situation would be monitored.

Complaint from property owner regarding Kikuyu grass on the stop bank of Alexander’s Canal. The owner had been advised that they owned the bank and it was their responsibility.

RESOLVED

THAT a letter be written to the land owner advising them that it is the landowners responsibility to spray the drain bank to eradicate weeds.

WVS PRS Liaison Committee

The Chairperson gave a report on Environment Waikato’s WVS PRS Schemes Liaison Committee meeting held at Matamata on Friday 15 November 2002.

Drainage Rate Review

It was noted that a new representative was required for the Drainage Rate Review Committee. The next meeting of this Committee was planned for March 2003.

The Drainage Manager advised that advice had been sought from Geoff Balme of Beattie Rickman on the processes required to confirm the proposals, and the implications of the new Local Government Rating Act. A preliminary report had been received and would be considered at the next meeting of the rate review committee.

Estimates

A copy of the draft estimates for the 2003-04 year were tabled at the meeting. The committee reviewed the estimates.

The Drainage Manager advised that the estimates had been through the Management Review and once they had the Committee’s approval would then go through Council.

RESOLVED

THAT the 2003-04 estimates for the Komata North Drainage District as presented be approved.

FINANCIAL REPORT

The financial report to 31 December 2002 was attached for members’ information

RESOLVED

THAT the financial report on the operations of the Komata North Drainage District Committee for the 6 months to 31 December 2002 be received.

GENERAL BUSINESS

Representative on the Drainage Rate Review Committee

Due to the resignation of Philip Hughes from the KNDD Committee a new representative on the Rate Review Committee was required. The Drainage Manager outlined the work undertaken by the committee to date.

RESOLVED

THAT G Vowles be the Komata North Drainage District representative on the Drainage Rate Review Committee.
