MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE PAEROA RURAL DRAINAGE DISTRICT COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON TUESDAY 26 SEPTEMBER 2006 COMMENCING AT 10.30AM

CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES

MEETING HELD ON FRIDAY, 28 APRIL 2006

RESOLVED

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Paeroa Rural Drainage District held on Friday 28 April 2006 be taken as read and confirmed.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

Committee Member

Mr Morrison advised that Mr Gavin Vowles wished to join the Committee and requested that staff contact Mr Vowles to formally arrange for his membership on the Committee.

Drain Spraying

Cross Drain

A member advised that Macrocarpa trees are growing over the drain restricting access for cleaning machinery. It was also commented there is a silage tyre submerged in the drain which requires removal. The Acting Drainage Overseer will investigate.

 

DRAINAGE REPORT (45.700.999) (20KB)

The report from the Drainage Manager was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

Komata North

Drain Maintenance

It was requested that the Acting Drainage Overseer check the district spraying programme due to concerns of excess weed growth in the area.

Opukeko

It was advised that there an issue of flooding at Millington’s. Cleaning has been carried out at subdivision.

Tirohia-Rotokohu

There were no issues to report.

Pump Hours

An issue was raised regarding the Mill Road No. 2 pump. An explanation was requested as to why the pump hours for this pump were is so high. The members suggested that if there is no necessity for the pump to be operating full time due to minimal water levels, that the pumps be turned off. The Ex Drainage Overseer advised that the probes have been lowered. It was suggested that the probes at the location be raised to reduce excessive pump use.

It was requested that Mike Peters and the Acting Drainage Overseer talk to Kevin Campbell regarding the setting of the probes to an appropriate level.

Chris Reid stated that the Hubbard’s pump is pumping excessively which is draining the drain completely of all water.

It was advised that Environment Waikato is responsible for lowering and raising the probes to levels that the Drainage Committee require.

 

WVS/PRS Liaison Committee

Graham Morrison advised of his attendance at the WVS/PRS Liaison Committee meeting held on 7 September and informed the Committee of topics of discussions held.

 

FINANCIAL REPORTS (45.700.999)

The financial report for the Paeroa Rural Drainage District Committee for the 12 months ended 30 June 2006 was presented for the members’ information.

THAT the financial report on the operations of the Paeroa Rural Drainage District Committee for the 12 months ended 30 June 2006 be received.

Interest Income

Graham Morrison requested that a check of the opening balance be carried out. It was requested that the Drainage Manager or Drainage Overseer report back if this figure is accurate.

Opukeko

The Ex Drainage Overseer outlined the Operating Expenditure.

The Ex Drainage Overseer outlined the Operating Expenditure.

 

GENERAL BUSINESS

MEMBERS COMMENTS

Mike Peters advised of the process being used by EW for stream cleaning in the Waikato. He stated that at Meremere, Environment Waikato are using the White Amur species of carp to assist in the control of weed growth in streams.

Resignation of Steve Clark from position of Drainage Overseer

Chris Reid thanked Steve Clarke for his contribution and the support he had provided to the Paeroa Rural Drainage District Committees during his time in the position as Drainage Overseer.

RESOLVED

THAT the Paeroa Rural Drainage Committee members formally convey their appreciation to Steve Clark for his valued service to the Drainage Committees over the years in his role as Drainage Overseer.
