CONSIDERATION OF 2000/2001 ESTIMATES

Attached for the Committee’s consideration were the 2000/2001 estimates.

The Drainage Manager took the Committee through the estimates. He explained that the Council was having a meeting on the 22 March 2000 to consider the estimates, so the Committee needed to revise their estimates before this date.

Points discussed were:

DiSP

The value of the assets

Clarification on what the assets are and if they are needed

Waitakaruru Floodgate to be changed to 2002/2003

Van Eyk Floodgate to be changed to 2000/2001

Survey of Miranda Area Stopbanks – prioritise where money is spent and to include the proposed Waitakaruru stopbank work and the possible extension to the foreshore stopbank north of the Hot Springs Canal

Upper Pouarua Canal Cleaning to be changed to 2000/2001 ($30,000)

After discussion on the above matters and deciding that to make a final decision regarding DiSP more information was required on what the Western Plains Drainage Districts assets actually were and their value, the Committee decided:

RESOLVED

THAT the Western Plains Drainage District Committee requires more information on the number, location and condition of its assets and the levels of service to be provided before it is able to assess the impact these factors have on the calculation of DiSP

AND THAT it is therefore recommended that there be a 2 percent rate rise, taking into consideration also the impact of the recent Piako River Scheme rate increase.

WPDD00/14 Carter/Speedy CARRIED

The meeting closed at 12.15 pm.
