MINUTES A MEETING OF THE WESTERN PLAINS DRAINAGE DISTRICT COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL OFFICE, ORCHARD ROAD, NGATEA ON WEDNESDAY 25 JANUARY 2006 COMMENCING AT 10.30 AM

CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES

MEETING HELD WEDNESDAY 23 NOVEMBER 2005

RESOLVED

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Western Plains Drainage District Committee held on Wednesday 23 November 2005 be taken as read and confirmed.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

Waihou Valley and Piako River Schemes Liaison Meeting

Discussions on the programme of meetings and trips proposed for the committee was held. The issue of Piako River stopbank stability measures being investigated by EW was held.

The Drainage Overseer attended the meeting at 10.50am.

Alan Harris Drain

The Drainage Overseer advised that all the trees causing obstruction were removed at the landowner’s cost. Council staff removed other trees that hindered access for spraying. Other problem trees including privet have been sprayed and will be removed at a later date.

 

DRAINAGE REPORT (45.499.002) (15KB)

The monthly report from the Drainage Manager was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received.

WPDD06/02 Paterson/Cox CARRIED

Maintenance/Fencing/Culverts

It was advised that the Drainage Overseer, Robert Hicks, the Drainage Manager and Peter Paterson will meet at Patersons Outlet culvert to check the drain alignment and investigate a solution, on Friday, 27 January 2006 at 9.00am.

Floodgates

Maukoro Canal between Pouarua Canal Pumps

To address issues regarding the proposal to remove the floodgates located on the right bank of the Maukoro Canal between the Pouarua Canal pumps and state highway 2, it was proposed that the EW representative (Ian Sara), the Committee Chairperson, the Drainage Manager and the Drainage Overseer meet with the affected ratepayers on site to discuss their possible removal and to resolve the ownership of them. In conclusion of this meeting, it was proposed that the Chairperson, the Drainage Manager and Overseer meet with EW to finalise a decision on the matter.

On issues relating to the road culverts at the location of the floodgates, it was also proposed that the Drainage Manager speak with the Roading Manager regarding the ownership of these culverts.

It was requested that the Drainage Manager contact the affected ratepayers to set up a meeting as proposed.

GENERAL BUSINESS

There was no general business.

Don Challis left the meeting at 11.55am.

Drainage Committee Elections

The Drainage Manager advised that the nominations for the election of members to the District Drainage Committees will close on Friday 24 February 2006.

 

The meeting closed at 12.30pm.
