RESOLVED

THAT the report be received.

WPDD07/31 CARRIED

Report on July Storm Events

The Drainage Manager reported on the storm events of 10-11 July and 29 July - 3 August and provided records of pumping hours over these periods.

Wayne Bennett considered that the Hopai West pumps are not running long enough. Wayne has timed them running for 7 minutes maximum.

Members raised an issue with some pumps not being fed adequately and the prolific existence of Duckweed which is affecting pumping action.

Waikoura Canal

Roberts Hicks noted that there are a number of low spots over floodgates which require filling. The Drainage Overseer advised that the bank requires shaping and a pipe is to be installed.

Canal East Road, Roadside Drain Culverts

Letters have been sent to the affected owners of properties on Canal East Road between the Pouarua Pumps and Hopai West Road. Further discussions have been held with Environment Waikato staff. A report on the stopbank proposals will be presented to the River Schemes Liaison Sub committee meeting on 6 September.

Discussion was held on the running of an extra drain to connect to the Central North pump.

FINANCIAL REPORT (45.499.003)

There is no financial report available this month.

GENERAL BUSINESS

Letter from Ms L Coates and G McConnell, RD6, Thames

A letter from land owners, Louise Coates and Greg McConnell was presented highlighting their dissatisfaction with the condition of the drains on the canal side of the road. They appear to be heavily blocked which are causing ponding on their farm.

The members agreed that improvements be made to this area by widening the drain at McConnell’s. It was agreed that long term options to improve this drain be given consideration.

The landowners want payment for floodgate flaps which were taken out by Council.

The Drainage Manager will investigate.

Environment Waikato Representation

Robert Hicks reported that he had met with Peter Buckley who is the successful candidate for EW representation in North Waikato-Hauraki.

MEMBER’S COMMENTS:

D Cox - Requested floodgate be repaired on his property.

P Paterson left the meeting at 12.30pm.

The meeting closed at 12.40pm.
