RESOLVED
THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Western Plains Drainage District Committee held on Tuesday 29 January 2008 be taken as read and confirmed.

The monthly report from the Drainage Manager was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

Spraying
The Drainage Overseer advised that extensive spraying is presently being undertaken.
Mechanical Cleaning
Some machine cleaning has been undertaken, but the database input and reporting needs fine tuning. The bulk of the machine cleaning programme will be in February to April.
Pump Operation
Total running for all pumps in January was 3 hours. No man-hours were spent on weed screen cleaning.
Paul Leonard Development
The Drainage Manager reported that with the recent increases in the cost of precast concrete products, staff are investigating the options for completing the piping of the drain alongside the proposed residential development.
The WPDD Committee’s share of the piping costs will be confirmed before the development of the subdivision commences possibly later this year.
Canal East Road, roadside drain culverts
Details of the drainage re-orientation in the area between Canal East Road and the Central North Drain have been forwarded to Environment Waikato. EW staff is considering the extent of works to be undertaken this summer, in conjunction with the proposed stopbank reconstruction. A letter from EW requesting confirmation of the estimate was tabled at the meeting. Staff will respond and resolve any differences.
It was requested that the Drainage Overseer report on costs of these works to the next meeting.
Pouarua South Road Culvert
Contact has been made with Landcorp’s Farm Manager in Rotorua. A meeting on site with the local manager is to be arranged.
Environment Waikato River and Catchment Schemes Liaison Subcommittees
The Drainage Manager advised the make up of the EW River and Catchment Schemes Subcommittees.
A workshop will be held on Friday 4th April 2008 commencing at 9.30am, for EW to present to the District Drainage Committees and Council on the funding review being undertaken. An agenda for this workshop will be sent out shortly.
Drainage Committee Elections
The Drainage Manager advised that a meeting with Council’s Returning Officer has been arranged with a view to conducting the elections in late March-early April.
GENERAL BUSINESS
District Tour
The Committee was asked to consider a date to undertake the tour of the drainage district and to consider any specific areas of concern they felt needed inspection by the Committee.
It was proposed that a tour be held on Tuesday 18 March 2008, commencing at Ngatea Office at 9.30am.
Members Comments:
The Members were invited to comment on any general drainage issues of interest in their areas.
Brian Carter – Culvert on Hopai West Road and Pouarua is breaking down.
Robert Hicks – Max Davies requests a culvert be installed at Front Miranda Road.
Don Challis – Phillips Road – requested that the corner of drain be cut off because bank is slipping and is difficult to access the drain and power poles are also slipping into drain.
