CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Western Plains Drainage District Committee held on Tuesday 26 February 2008 be taken as read and confirmed.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

Environment Waikato Responsibility for Foodgate Flaps

A general discussion was held regarding the Maukoro-Central Drain regarding realignment of proposed new drains. The Committee advised of their concern regarding the financial responsibility for the floodgate flaps on private drains.

District Tour

Brian Carter advised of issues resulting from the recent tour of the drainage district.

  • Mechanical cleaning of Scott’s Drain

  • Mechanical cleaning of drain through DOC land

  • Repair retaining wall and roadside drain at Bates property

  • Mechanical cleaning of equaliser drain (O’Hara property)

 

DRAINAGE REPORT (55KB)

The monthly report from the Drainage Manager was presented by the Drainage Overseer for the Committee’s consideration

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received.

Bylaw Approvals

Approval for culverts in the Kaihere Road South and Cassey Drains were approved, and a bridge over the Central Drain was approved. Approval to build a shed within 15m of the Ngatea Town Drain was approved.

Paul Leonard Development

A general discussion was held about the status of the development in relation to the Paul Leonard drain.

Reinstatement of Monitoring Piezometers

The Committee requested that the Drainage Manager investigate the location and monitoring of the piezometers on DOC land off Torehape Road.

Landcorp Culvert

The Committee raised a concern regarding the Landcorp culvert located at Pouarua South Road near the Landcorp cowshed causing flooding into other drainage areas. They requested that the Drainage Manager investigate and resolve the matter as soon as possible.

Drainage Committees Election

The Drainage Overseer reminded the members of the closing date of Friday 18 April 2008 for nominations to the Drainage Committees.

There was no financial report available.

 

GENERAL BUSINESS

Trees on Aitchison Outlet Drain

Peter Paterson requested that the trees located on the drain banks on Aitchison Outlet at Patetonga be removed. The trees require removal as they are causing restriction to mechanical cleaning and could cause blockages. A meeting is to be arranged by Peter Paterson with the landowners concerned, Robert Hicks, the Drainage Overseer and the Drainage Manager to resolve the issue.

The meeting closed at 11.55am.
