MINUTES OF A RE-SCHEDULED MEETING OF THE PAEROA WARD COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON WEDNESDAY 3 MARCH 2004 COMMENCING AT 1.OO PM

Note: The meeting scheduled for 1 March 2004 was postponed due to an absence of a quorum.

2004/2005 ESTIMATES (24.003.203)

The Corporate Services Manager presented the Draft 2004/2005 Estimates to be considered for inclusion in the Councils’ Long Term Council Community Plan.

RESOLVED

THAT it be recommended to Council that the Paeroa Ward 2004/2005 estimates be approved and included in the 2004/2005 Long Term Council Community Plan as amended.

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Paeroa Ward Committee held on Monday 2 February 2004 be taken as read and confirmed.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

Rahu Road Realignment

The Rahu Road realignment work should commence work next week.

Request for financial assistance to Establish a Community Newspaper

It was reported that the parties requiring funding for the establishment of a Community Newspaper no longer require financial assistance and that this matter lie on the table.

RESOLVED

THAT as funding is no longer required from Council by the parties wishing to establish a Community Newspaper the matter is considered to be dealt with.

Pukerimu (Paeroa) Cemetery

Discussion was held regarding the option of constructing toilet facilities at the Pukerimu Cemetery. It was considered that the use of such a facility would be minimal due to the small number of visitors at the cemetery and that this option be deleted.

RESOLVED

THAT a toilet facility not be installed at the Cemetery.

COMMUNITY SERVICES

COMMUNITY FACILITIES MANAGERS MONTHLY REPORT (01.002.021)

END OF SEASON POOL SUPERVISOR’S REPORT – 2003/04 (02.199.999)

The Community Facilities Manager presented the monthly report on activities and the Pool Supervisor’s Report for the Committee’s consideration.

RESOLVED

THAT the Community Facilities Managers report be received.

AND THAT the recommendations put forward in the Pool Supervisor’s report be deferred to a later date to give members time to consider them.

PAEROA SOCIETY OF ARTS

A letter of thanks to the Council from the Paeroa Society of Arts including the President’s Report for the year ended 31 October 2003 has been received.

THAT the correspondence be received.

REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The Paeroa Tennis and Squash Club Inc. Fundraising Administrator has written seeking assistance with funding to upgrade their car park. They have received a grant from Pub Charities ($10,000) and fund-raised a further $5000. Quotes received indicate a cost between $19,750 and $20,822 (average $20,317) for the upgrade. This leaves them with a minimum shortfall of $4,750.

RESOLVED

THAT the letter be received

AND THAT a grant of $5,000.00 be made from the Paeroa Community Recreation Facilities Development Fund.

A report from the Community Liaison Officer regarding the Paeroa Information Centre was presented.

The financial report for the 7 months ended 31 January 2004 was submitted for the Committee’s consideration.

THAT the financial report on the operations of the Paeroa Ward Committee for the 7 months ended 31 January 2004 be received.

The Roading Manager’s monthly report to the Works Committee was attached.

THAT the report be received.
