MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE PAEROA WARD COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON TUESDAY 6 DECEMBER 2005 COMMENCING AT 12.30PM

THAT pursuant to Section 46A(7) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, the following late items be accepted for discussion.

The item was not on the agenda because the item was unavailable at the time of the agenda deadline.

Discussion on the item could not be delayed because the item needed the consideration of the Committee before the Xmas break.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

Paeroa Streetscape

Cr Meyers asked that as part of the streetscape project, if additional disabled car parks could be installed on the Williams Street side of the Council building as he considered the disabled car parks located on the Belmont Road side were a safety hazard.

It was advised that the District Engineer and Roading Manager will be asked to investigate the viability of installing a car park at this location.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICES

COMMUNITY FACILITIES MANAGERS MONTHLY REPORT (01.002.021) (27KB) 

The Community Facilities Managers monthly report on activities was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

THAT the Community Facilities Managers report be received.

NZ Red Cross – 75th Jubilee

A letter has been received from the Events Co-ordinator of the Northern/Midland Region of the NZ Red Cross requesting that Council support the celebrations of their 75th Jubilee to be held in 2006 by way of planting the district gardens in the colours of their emblem along with other Councils in the region.

RESOLVED

THAT the letter from NZ Red Cross be received

AND THAT that Council support the 75th Jubilee Year in 2006 as detailed.

Pool

Discussion was held following the visit to the pool which had been carried out earlier in the day. It was commented that the upgrade of the toilets and changing rooms at the pool are a significant improvement. The Community Facilities Manager informed the meeting that the members comments made at the inspection of the pool have been noted.

Upgrade of Memorial Hall

Discussion was held regarding options for a proposed date to hold an opening ceremony of the upgraded Memorial Hall. It was agreed that Cr Bubb and two other members of the Committee finalise a date for a function to be held.

Cr Meyers raised a concern that the there needs to be a disabled access installed at the rear of the hall to assist disabled and elderly people. He stated that he had contacted members of the Hall Users Group who have given their support for a disabled access to be installed to the rear of the building.

Cr Trembath stated if there was funding available that the access be considered in the ongoing expenditure of the total upgrade.

 

REQUESTS FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (20.030.002)  (27KB)

Paeroa Lawn Tennis and Squash Rackets Club Inc (IM237464)

A report from the Community Liaison Officer regarding a request received from the Paeroa Lawn Tennis and Squash Rackets Club Inc. seeking funding assistance for the replacement of two Astrograss surface tennis courts to be carried out in March/April of 2006.

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received.

Club members Mr Norm McMillan, Cliff Pett and Michael Ashford-Beck were in attendance and spoke on behalf of the Club. They stated that the Club has district and inter-district wide support due to the high standard of the facility which they need to maintain. The members of the Club invited the Ward Committee to visit the facility.

The Mayor gave his support for the replacement courts, stating that it is a district wide facility well patronised by people within the district and outer districts.

The Committee gave their support for the upgrade of the courts and agreed that the funding be sourced, two thirds from the District Fund and one third from the Paeroa Community Recreational Fund.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward Committee approves funding of the upgrade of the tennis courts to be sourced, two thirds from the District Fund and one third from the Paeroa Community Recreational Fund.

GENERAL BUSINESS

2006-16 LTCCP AND FINANCIAL ESTIMATES (01.710.108)  (13KB)

The Mayor presented a report from the Manager, Planning and Environmental Services regarding the 2006-16 LTCCP. It was requested the Committee members consider projects they considered are a priority for inclusion in the LTCCP particularly within the next three years.

The members put forward the priorities of projects they wished to see included in the 2006-16 LTCCP:

LATE ITEMS OF BUSINESS

REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (20.030.001)

THE SALVATION ARMY PAEROA (IM236520)

The Community Liaison Officer presented a request for financial assistance received from the Officer in Charge of the Paeroa Corps. They seek the Committees support towards the cost of dumping unusable clothing at the dump. They currently dump between 4 and 10 wool bales per month with each bale costing $10.00 to dump.

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received.

It was suggested that the Salvation Army be issued with vouchers to cover the cost of disposing of the unusable clothing to the landfill.

RESOLVED

THAT the Paeroa Salvation Army Group be issued with vouchers totalling $500.00 to cover the costs of disposing of the unusable clothing.
