Business After Five – Discussion on Main Street Car Parking

It was advised that the next Business After Five meeting will be held on Wednesday, 11 April 2007 at Antiques on Main. Cr Trembath will raise the issue of main street car parking at this meeting.

The Community Services monthly report on activities was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE [20.030.001]

HAURAKI TIGERS RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB [IM273325]

A request from the Club’s Coach/Secretary for assistance with costs for using Centennial Park field, lights and showers was received. The applicant advised that the cost for use of these resources would be $50 per night, two nights a week and sought up to $500 to cover the cost.

RESOLVED

THAT $300.00 be granted to the Hauraki Tigers Rugby League Club to assist in covering costs for the use of the Centennial Park field lights and showers.

PAEROA L&P BMX CLUB [IM273031]

A request from the President of the club for assistance with funding of materials needed to build a fence across their car park area has been received. The cost of material has been quoted at $981.64.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward Committee grant $981.64 to be sourced from the Paeroa Ward Community Facilities and Recreational Fund. to the Paeroa L & P BMX Club to cover costs of building materials for car park fencing.

PAEROA VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE (IM273648)

The Secretary of the local brigade writes asking for a grant to aid them in completing a security upgrade to the brigade premises. They have major concerns for security and have already begun work on securing access to the rear of the station. They quote $2,500 worth of equipment is needed to complete this stage.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward Committee support funding of $500.00 from the Ward and $2,000.00 from the district for the security upgrade to the brigade premises.

Paeroa Croquet Club

The Parks and Reserves Manager advised of a letter received from the Croquet Club requesting an increase in the amount of reimbursement for power costs made by the Ward to the Club due to power line rental charges increasing.

Following discussion, the members agreed that as this was an ongoing energy charge, that the Ward would pay half the costs as requested to cover half the costs of their power availability charge due to an increase in power line rental charges.

Taylors Reserve – Proposed Mountain Bike Track

A letter has been received from some keen mountain bikers who wish to set up a track on the Taylors Reserve land. The letter was attached.

It was suggested that Councillors and staff meet with the mountain bikers to review options of establishing a track at Taylors Reserve or an alternative location. If a mountain biking track is set up in Taylors Reserve, it was suggested that a fence be constructed around it to prevent motorbikes accessing the track.

It was requested the Parks and Reserves Manager organise a date and time to meet with the mountain bikers for discussions on a proposed track.

Vandalism to Seat and Hedging Plants – Ohinemuri Park

Due to the ongoing vandalism to the seats and the damage caused to the hedging plants in the park by vandals jumping into them, it was suggested the seat behind the Bottle which is close to the hedge be moved to a more visible position towards the toilets, and the hedging plants have a strand of wire installed in them as a means of reducing the damage.

RESOLVED

THAT staff organise the relocation of the park seat as described to a suitable location near the toilets and that the hedging plants be protected by a strand of wire.

REQUEST FOR MOTORIST SERVICE SIGN (01.001.029)

A report from the Roading Manager was presented regarding a request received from the Paeroa Recreational Vehicle Centre for the installation of a directional fingerboard sign.
