MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE PAEROA WARD COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON TUESDAY 14 APRIL 2009 COMMENCING AT 12.30PM

THAT pursuant to Section 46A(7) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, the following late items be accepted for discussion.

- Paeroa Streetscape Mayoral Advisory Group Meeting Record – 8 March 2009

The item was not on the agenda because the item was unavailable at the time of the agenda deadline.

Discussion on the item could not be delayed because staff wished the discussions on the streetscape to be advised to the Ward Committee in a timely manner.

- Hauraki Tigers Rugby League Club

The item was not on the agenda because the item was unavailable at the time of the agenda deadline.

Discussion on the item could not be delayed because the matter required the consideration by the Committee to the request as soon as practicable due to the upcoming commencement of the rugby season.

COMMUNITY SERVICES

COMMUNITY SERVICES MONTHLY REPORT (475074)

The Community Services monthly report on activities was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

RESOLVED

THAT the Community Services monthly report be received.

REQUESTS FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The Paeroa Ward Committee has been allocated $8500 for discretionary grants during this 2008/09 financial year. Grants have been made to Paeroa & District Museum and Historic Society ($1734), Ms. Windlebourne ($200), Historical Maritime Park ($1000), Ms Robinson ($200.00), Paeroa Pipe Bands Tattoo Committee Inc., ($1000), Ms. Tissingh ($100), Paeroa College ($250), Plunket Society ($600), Paeroa Croquet ($200) and Positive Paeroa Inc. ($550) and leaving a balance of $2,666.00.

There is one application for financial assistance this month.

PAEROA COLLEGE JUNIOR GIRLS BASKETBALL [468712]

A request from members of the abovementioned team for sponsorship has been received. The team consists of 10 players plus coaching staff and will be playing in a number of tournaments this 2009 season.

The team is faced with the costs of fees, travel, team t-shirts, drink bottles etc and seek assistance financially and/or in kind with these expenses.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward declines the request on the grounds that Council generally supports teams attending a tournament and not general team running costs.

PAEROA MEMORIAL HALL

The Community Facilities Manager advised that the ceiling of the main hall has been painted with mould resistant paint. The opportunity arose to complete this work before Anzac Day.

ANCHOR STONE SCULPTURE

Discussion was held as to where the anchor stone sculpture should be placed. It was generally agreed that the sculpture needs to be placed in a main street location. Cr Bubb will organise a meeting with the town promoter, Annee Harris and the sculpture artist to discuss options for its placement.

PAEROA STREETSCAPE MAYORAL ADVISORY GROUP MEETING RECORD – 8 MARCH 2009 (477455)

The District Engineer tabled a report advising of the discussion held at the meeting on the Paeroa Streetscape Mayoral Advisory Group held on 8 March 2009.

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received.

HAURAKI TIGERS RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB

A letter from the Secretary of the Hauraki Tigers Rugby League Club was presented requesting long term tenure of the Brennan Fields situated at Centennial Park. They also request that the feasibility of establishing changing rooms, showers and toilets be explored.

After discussion on the request, it was agreed that a meeting be held involving Crs Thorp and Milner and the Parks and Reserves Manager with the Centennial Park Board to discuss the tenure of the Brennan Fields.

Discussions on the feasibility of establishing changing rooms, showers and toilets for players and supporters at the fields can be considered at some other time in the future.

RESOLVED

THAT the Parks and Reserves Manager organise a meeting with the Centennial Park Board for discussions on the use of the Brennan Fields by the Hauraki Tigers Rugby League Club.
