MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE PAEROA WARD COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON TUESDAY 12 MAY 2009 COMMENCING AT 12.30PM

CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES

MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY 14 APRIL 2009 (477528)

RESOLVED

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Paeroa Ward Committee held on Tuesday 14 April 2009 be taken as read and confirmed.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

Placement of Anchor Stone Carving

Cr Bubb spoke of the consideration over the placement of the anchor stone carving recently completed. The District Engineer suggested that the placement of the stone would be best located on a concrete slab on the walkway in front of the Post Office.

It was agreed that a brass plaque be placed on the sculpture with the wording as follows:

"Maori anchor stone of Maratoto rock, Sculptor - Jocelyn Pratt 2009."

It was agreed that a date be confirmed in the near future for an ‘unveiling ceremony’ to be held.

It was requested that the District Engineer and the Parks and Reserves Manager organise the engraving and placement of the plaques for the anchor stone sculpture and the central rock feature in front of the Post Office at the same time.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICES

COMMUNITY SERVICES MONTHLY REPORT (481877) ; (40KB)

The Community Services monthly report on activities was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

RESOLVED

THAT the Community Services monthly report be received.

Paeroa Domain - Thames Valley Rugby Union (TVRU)

The Parks and Reserves Manager advised that lights will be installed in the grandstand in the near future.

Skatepark Facility - Upgrade

The Operations Manager advised the Committee that Mr Jason Parks of Premium Skate Design who recently visited the district to review Councils present skate park facilities will be providing concept plans and quotations for all Ward sites in the near future. Preliminary drawings and costs will be presented at the next Ward meeting in June.

In considering a new site for the facility, Mr Parks suggested that the area of Railway Reserve directly opposite Tony Richards Toyota would be a very suitable site.

Domain Users Group Meeting

The Mayor requested the Parks and Reserves Manager organise a meeting in the near future with the Domain Users Group to discuss the general operation of the Domain.

OPUS Support of Community Project

A brief discussion was held regarding the offer received from the Business Group Manager of OPUS International Consultants, Paeroa to assist Council with a nominated community project.

The Parks and Reserves Manager suggested the company could assist with the proposed walkway project linking Paeroa with the Maritime Park Museum.

The members suggested other projects for consideration as follows:

  • skate park upgrade

  • landscaping of the Ohinemuri stopbank walkway

  • other landscaping projects within the town centre

The Mayor suggested that Environment Waikato be contacted regarding the Ohinemuri stopbank walkway proposal as the stop bank is under their ownership.

In conclusion, it was agreed that a meeting be organised with Scott Evans of OPUS to include Cr Bubb and Community Services staff for discussions on proposed community projects.
