COMMUNITY SERVICES

COMMUNITY SERVICES MONTHLY REPORT (01.002.021) (31KB)

The Community Services monthly report on activities was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

RESOLVED

THAT the Community Services monthly report be received.

Halls

Window Coverings

The Community Liaison Officer advised of the options for window coverings. It was agreed that the Community Liaison Officer advise Committee members when the furnishings consultant is on site to discuss and confirm suitable window coverings.

 

REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE [20.030.003]

Ngatea Primary School [IM264507]

The Principal for the Ngatea Primary School advises that the junior school is producing an end-of-year production in the Ngatea War Memorial hall during the week ending 8th December 2006. Hire charges for the hall are $580.00.

The Principal asks that the Ward consider financial assistance towards the hire costs.

It was agreed that the school be charged $360.00 for the hire of the hall.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ngatea Primary School be charged $360.00 for the hire of the hall

AND THAT the Ward grant $60.00 to the school for hall hire.

Hugh Hayward Domain Carparking

The Parks and Reserves Manager advised of the meeting held at the site with Crs Gordon and Challis for discussions on car parking at the Domain. A plan which was produced from this meeting of the proposed car parking was presented to the members. After discussion, the members considered that a review of car parking in the Domain be undertaken with Councillors and staff and that the Parks and Reserves Manager organise a meeting.

Ngatea Swimming Pool

The members were advised of the increased usage the pool is receiving from the public since the installation of the heating system. It was advised that the opening ceremony for the pool will be held at the site on Wednesday, 20 December 2006 at 2.00pm.

Events Centre Sign

The members were advised of correspondence received from the Ngatea Primary School requesting the installation of directional signage directing the public to the Events Centre. A letter from Positively Promoting the Plains also requesting consideration of signage was tabled at the meeting.

The School also requested the Committee consider if the gravel driveway leading to the Events Centre via the swimming pool should be removed or not. After consideration of both issues, it was agreed that staff advise the school that Council are addressing the matter of directional signage and that the gravel driveway be removed and the material be used as a base for the new car park.

Vandalism

The Parks and Reserves Manager advised of the recent spate of vandalism in the town centre. The Police have advised that their investigations into the vandalism have been successful.

 

GENERAL BUSINESS

ANNUAL PLAN ESTIMATES 2007/08 – PLAINS WARD (24.003.206) (28KB)

A report from the Corporate Services Manager regarding the Annual Plan Estimates for 2007/08 was presented by the Chief Executive. The report provided a ‘heads up’ of capital works programmed for the 2007/08 year as part of the Long Term Council Community Plan 2006-16.

In consideration of non-subsidised roading, it was requested that the District Engineer investigates the installation of a footpath path between Piako Road (from the site of the hall) at Turua.

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received.
