COMMUNITY SERVICES MONTHLY REPORT
The Parks and Reserves Manager reported on activities for the month of November 2007 for the Committee’s consideration.

NGATEA DOMAIN – FIELD DRAINAGE
It was requested that this item be withdrawn from the agenda as further information was required on the subject.
REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
The Plains Ward Committee has been allocated $3,000.00 for discretionary grants during this financial year. The Committee has allocated $100.00 to TVSO and $800.00 to Turua Daycare Inc. leaving a balance of $2,100.00.
NGATEA LIONS (376621)
A request has been received from the Treasurer of the Ngatea Lions seeking a waiver of the hall hire fees. The applicant advises that they plan to hold a fundraising event in support of the St. Johns Ambulance. They have booked the Ngatea War Memorial Hall for the afternoon and evening of the 12th April 2008. The cost for the hire is $96.00
RESOLVED
THAT the hall fire fee of $96.00 be granted to the Ngatea Lions Club.

PARKING IN MAIN STREET
Cr Leonard advised of a request received from a wheelchair user and resident of Ngatea asking if some consideration could be given to providing more carparks on the northern side of the main street opposite the Pricechopper supermarket. The resident considers the parking is not near enough to amenities such as the chemist and hardware
In consideration of the matter, the Chief Executive advised he will request the Roading Manager to consider a review of carparking at the location concerned.
WAITAKARURU TOILET BLOCK - UPGRADE
The members held a discussion regarding the poor state of the public toilets at Waitakaruru and considered they required upgrading to an improved standard. In view of this, it was requested that the Parks and Reserves Manager investigate what work is required to upgrade the public toilet block at Waitakaruru.
LINE MARKING OF FIELDS AT NGATEA DOMAIN
The Parks and Reserves Manager advised that someone had used roundup to mark out lines at the Domain which was found to be unsatisfactory. It was agreed that Parks and Reserves Manager advise the Domain Users Committee member’s that in future, they are to use the Council line marking equipment for all fields.

GENERAL BUSINESS
FUTURE CAPITAL PROJECTS 2007/08
The Parks and Reserves Manager advised of projects requiring consideration of funding.
Replacement Flood Lights in Tilbury Reserve
It was requested that the Parks and Reserves Manager seek a price for the purchase and installation of new lights for the Millennium Bridge. The present lights have ceased to work and are no longer repairable.
Upgrade of Waitakaruru Hall and Domain Buildings
Discussion was held regarding the upgrading of the buildings in the Waitakaruru Domain. It was agreed that Cr Gordon organise a meeting with Cr Harris, the Mayor and himself to talk with the Waitakaruru Domain Committee regarding funding requirements for the maintenance of the hall and other buildings within the Domain.
Kerb and Channel at Waitakaruru
It was requested that the District Engineer be asked when the kerb and channel work at Waitakaruru is due to commence.
Maintenance Level of Service in Main Street
The member’s were asked by the Parks and Reserves Manager to comment on the present level of service being provided by Councils Construction and Maintenance Business Unit in the main street area. The members considered that it would be of benefit if the Parks and Reserves Manager reviewed the present level of service level and advise of any areas he considered needed attention in the main street.
Library Proposal
Discussion was held regarding the proposal that the Hauraki College library and the public library be combined. The members commented that it would be practical for the two libraries to combine and agreed to the proposal ‘in principle’. The Mayor requested that the Ward refer this issue to Council and request staff to investigate options of combining the two libraries.
RESOLVED
THAT the Ward Committee agree ‘in principle’ that the Hauraki College library and the public library be combined.

Painting of Ngatea Service Centre
The members requested that the matter of painting the Service Centre be raised with the Property Manager.
Improvements to the Town Entrance
The member’s requested an approximate date when improvements to the town entranceways would be considered.
Playground Upgrade
It was suggested that the Ward Committee seek a completion date from the Positively Promoting the Plains Group for the playground design.
Ward Draft Estimates
The Chief Executive advised that the Draft Estimates for the Wards would be provided for consideration in the February 2008 Ward agenda.
