MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE PLAINS WARD COMMITTEE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WILLIAM STREET, PAEROA ON TUESDAY 10 JUNE 2008 COMMENCING AT 9.00 AM

THAT pursuant to Section 46A(7) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, the following late items be accepted for discussion.

Requests for Financial Assistance:

Kaihere School - Hall Hire Fee

Turua Hall and Domain Committee – Accommodation for Tractor and Mower

The items were not on the agenda because the items were unavailable at the time of the agenda deadine.

Discussion on the items could not be delayed because the items required the consideration of the Ward Committee before the next meeting.

RESOLVED

THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Plains Ward Committee held on Tuesday 13 May 2008 be taken as read and confirmed.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

Bus Parking - Hauraki Plains College, Kaihere Road, Ngatea

Concern was raised that a bus parking in the loading zone in Kaihere Road in front of Hauraki Plains College could pose a danger to pedestrian safety.

Members suggested the Committee meet with the Hauraki Plains College and Murphy’s buses to discuss an alternative parking area for the bus and that Councils’ Roading Manager be involved in these discussions.

THAT the Committee meet with the Hauraki Plains College and Murphy’s buses to discuss an alternative parking area for the bus and that the Councils’ Roading Manager be involved in these discussions.

Disability Carpark in Main Street

A member asked when the remarking of the disability car park outside the old Post Office will be undertaken. Cr Gordon advised he will speak with the Roading Manager regarding the status of the remarking work required.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICES

COMMUNITY SERVICES MONTHLY REPORT (410293) (34KB)

The Community Services monthly report on activities was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

THAT the Community Services monthly report be received.

Hall

The members were advised that the re-roofing of the hall has been completed.

 

LATE ITEM

REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Kaihere School - Hall Hire Fee

The Plains Ward Committee has been allocated $3,000.00 for discretionary grants during this financial year. The Committee has allocated $100.00 to TVSO, and $800 to Turua Daycare Inc., $95.00 for Ngatea Lions, $500.00 to Aaron Pulford and $225.00 to the Hauraki Plains Lionesses leaving a balance of $1,280.00.

RESOLVED

THAT the Plains Ward Committee grants $165.00 to the Kaihere School to cover hall hire fees.

Waitakaruru Kerb and Channel/Footpaths Upgrade

The members requested what the status of the Waitakaruru kerb and channel and footpath upgrade. The District Engineer advised that he will investigate where the upgrade is at with the contractor and report back to the Ward Committee.

THAT the District Engineer to investigate the status of the Waitakaruru Kerb and channel and footpath programme with contractor.

Hugh Hayward Domain – Carparking

An issue has been raised by a member of the Hockey Club concerning the lay out of the car parks in the Domain. They are concerned that pedestrian safety is compromised when people are leaving their vehicles parked in the central parking area. The Parks and Reserves Manager advised he will monitor the area.

 

GENERAL BUSINESS

Turua Hall and Domain Committee

Cr Gordon advised he had attended the Turua Hall and Domain Committee meeting on Monday 9th June. The members of the Committee were concerned that they are not receiving a refuse collection. The Chief Executive advised that the Committee are not rated for a refuse collection.

Ngatea Primary School – Presentation to Ward on Strategy Statement for the Future of the School

The Ngatea Primary School has asked that they be permitted to address the Ward Committee on the Strategy Statement for the future of the school. It was agreed that the school be invited to attend the 15th of July meeting for this purpose.

 

LATE ITEM

Turua Hall and Domain Committee – Accommodation for Tractor and Mower

The Community Services Manager presented a request from the Turua Hall and Domain Committee seeking funding support towards the construction or purchase of a shelter for their tractor and mower.

A member of the Turua community has priced a shed at approximately $15,000.00.

After discussion on the request, the Committee agreed to meet with the Hall and Domain Committee representatives in Turua to discuss options of a shelter for the machinery.

 

The meeting closed at 10.15am.
