Cr Baker gave an update on the police surveillance cameras.

COMMUNITY SERVICES MONTHLY REPORT (01.002.021)
The Community Services monthly report on activities was attached for the Committee’s consideration.

Request for BMX Cycle Venue
A letter had been received from Nic Tarver of Waihi, responding to a request from the Council’s Community Facilities Asset Manager for a list of suggested sites where a BMX riding facility could be installed.
The Community Services Manager advised that as yet the various sites that had been suggested had not been evaluated for suitability however it might be something that the committee might like to follow along by meeting the group and discussion how the proposal could be facilitated.
It was agreed that Cr Carmine and Hayden meet with the BMX group and discuss the proposed sites.
Morgan Park: Bowling/Croquet Club Entrance
A letter had been received from the Waihi Bowling Club asking if the sealed entrance and parking are could be resealed.
The Community Services Manager suggested that the Committee should commission an evaluation of the parking requirements taking into account the protection of the native tree grove as well as considering the reseal.
RESOLVED
THAT a parking plan in the immediate vicinity of the Waihi Bowling Club be commissioned and the implications looked at.

Road Verge Trees: Tauranga Road
The trees planted on the verge of Tauranga Road (within the township) have grown to a stage where they were now causing some concern with Transit NZ in that the highway lighting was being screened. Council would be seeking some imput from an arborist as to what treatment should be given to the offending trees but with the tree and the highway operator’s interest equally in mind. Cr Carmine and Wightman would also meet with the arborist.
Whiritoa Croquet Court
A request had been received from a group of Whiritoa residents who would like to establish a croquet court on the reserve behind the tennis courts at Whiritoa.
The proposal was that an area be levelled off to an appropriate dimension to allow the casual game of croquet be held.
Members were in support of the request.
It was noted that if the proposal was to proceed Council needed to make its intentions known and consultation undertaken with the community.
RESOLVED
THAT it be recommended to Council that they proceed with consultation with the Whiritoa Community regarding the Croquet Green proposal.

Whiritoa Township Entrance
The Community Services Manager advised that at the public meeting held in late January, it was suggested that the entrance to Whiritoa be beautified. Signage was part of the proposal as was planting and other structure suited for the purpose.
A better understanding of what was wanted, design etc was required. It was agreed that a concept plan be undertaken to be presented to the community for approval. Traffic design along with beautification work would be needed.
STREET APPEAL (40.000.501)
A letter had been received from the Careers Officer for the New Zealand Army based at Tauranga advising that they were proposing to have a recruiting drive in Waihi on the 30 July 2002. The Army’s display bus would be open for public viewing from 12.00 pm through to 1.30 pm. The Officer asked for permission to site their bus outside the Memorial Hall during that period.

AND THAT the request be granted to allow the NZ Army to park their display bus in the near vicinity of the Memorial Hall.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Waihi Advocacy Services wrote last April seeking assistance with a follow-up survey. The Ward had exceeded their grant allocation and directed that the applicant re-apply in the next financial term. The applicant has re-applied.
There was concern regarding the need for the request. More information was required.
