MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
Dean Crescent Intersection
A member asked if the safety concerns raised at the July meeting of the Waihi Ward concerning the intersection of Dean Crescent and SH2 have been communicated to Transit NZ, and if so, has a response been received. The District Engineer stated that the concerns raised regarding the safety of the intersection have been communicated with the Transit NZ and that a response has been received stating that due to the good visibility at the location this could not be regarded as a high priority project.

COMMUNITY FACILITIES MANAGERS MONTHLY REPORT (01.002.021)
The Community Facilities Managers monthly report on activities was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

Reserves
Morgan Park – Cricket Shed
The Waihi Women’s Soccer Team have advised they have, at the invitation of the Waihi Cricket Team, taken over the occupancy of the cricket shed at Morgan Park. The cricketers have handed it over due to a lack of participating players and support.
The Women’s Soccer team intend to use the shed primarily as a training base, rather than a ‘clubhouse’. They have a number of working bees planned to continue on with the improvements undertaken by the cricketers earlier this year.
It was requested that the Community Facilities Manager contact the Waihi Women’s Soccer Club to clarify with them Councils’ agreement as to the use of the land and buildings at Morgan Park.
Programmed Works
Gilmour Lake Reserve – Stage 1 – Landscape Improvements
The Community Facilities Manager reported that the final design plans are being drawn up for Stage 1 of this development. The plans will be presented to the Ward Committee for approval in due course. The tentative timeframe and listing of the major phases for Stage 1 of the development were advised.
Whiritoa Town Entrance – Concept Plan Development
It was reported that the concept plans for the development at the town entranceway have been deferred until the road safety improvements have been completed by Transit NZ.
REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WAIHI COLLEGE COMMUNITY POOL (02.602.999)
A report from the Community Liaison Officer was presented regarding a request for financial assistance from the Principal of Waihi College asking for a contribution to the cost of impending repairs to the College/Community pool.
Members acknowledged that they had been aware that there had been maintenance issues relating to the pool for a number of years. It was considered that an independent opinion should be sought as to what would be the best option for the pool in consideration of its present condition.

AND THAT Council refer the School to a qualified engineering consultancy for a survey to be carried out to assess the condition of the pool.
AND THAT after the assessment has been received that the Ward Committee meet with the College to discuss the future of the pool.

The Community Facilities Manager outlined the Aquatic Centre visit for September 1st which all Councillors have been invited to attend.

ENGINEERING SERVICES
ROADING: MONTHLY REPORT (01.001.029)
The Roading Manager’s monthly report to the Works Committee was presented.

Response Times for Service Requests – Road Maintenance
A member requested to know what the expected response time would be for road maintenance service requests to be actioned. The Roading Manager stated that the contractor evaluates the section of road regarding safety and the volume of traffic of the road concerned when determining the level of service for the request.
Old Tauranga Road/Waitawheta Road Intersection
A member enquired on the status of the safety improvements being addressed at the Waitawheta/Old Tauranga Road intersection. The Roading Manager advised that the utility services at the intersection have yet to be moved and once this has been completed, construction to improve the safety of the intersection would commence.
Redundant Street Lights
For the information of the members, it was reported that the lights in the closed part of Grey Street remain operational. The recommendation is that the lights be disconnected and opportunities for relocation be discussed with Waihi Gold during the decommissioning phase.
Franklin Road, Waitawheta end of road Carpark
The Department of Conservation (DoC) submitted a request for Council to increase the size of the existing carpark to accommodate the additional need generated by their new 26 bunk cabin that will be in use this summer. The on site measurements indicate that the existing parking area could accommodate 16 to 18 cars if they were angle parked. In discussion with DoC staff, their priority is to have alignment/ visibility improvements on Dickey Flat road improvements advanced first. The Franklin Road carpark work will be limited to signage and road marking to maximise the available parking area. The site will be monitored to determine the capacity required.

District Water
It was reported that the number of water breaks district wide has shown a decreasing trend over the last four years. This is interpreted as a result of successful pressure control of supply from the Plains water treatment plants and an active renewal programme that has removed problem areas in the network.
Waihi Water Supply
Opus International Consultants are currently preparing a draft report for the options for the Waihi Water source and storage options, expected to be tabled before the Works Committee later this month.
UTILITIES MANAGER’S MONTHLY WASTEWATER AND REFUSE REPORT
In the absence of the Utilities Manager, the monthly report to the Works Committee was presented by the District Engineer.

The District Engineer reported that options regarding the proposal to use a weigh bridge at the Transfer Station are presently being investigated.

Whiritoa Walkway Lighting
A report from the District Engineer was tabled regarding a letter which has been received from the Whiritoa Community Liaison Committee. The letter identifies a security problem of inadequate lighting in walkways between the streets.

AND THAT Council approve further investigation into ways and costs of providing the identified walkway lighting.

Senior Net, Waihi
A letter has been received from Senior Net, Waihi requesting financial assistance towards the running costs of their organisation.
RESOLVED
THAT $300.00 be granted from Waihi Ward Discretionary Fund to Senior Net, Waihi to assist with the running costs of their organisation.
WWC04/106 Hayden/Carmine CARRIED
Hetherington Rest home
Cllr Baker has received a verbal request for funding to support the purchase of an item of equipment for Hetherington Rest home for use by patients with difficulty communicating verbally. Initially that device would be used by Mr Bill Aken, a former employee of Hauraki District Council. It is recommended that the funding come from the Waihi Ward Discretionary Fund.

THAT $1,000 be granted to assist in the funding towards the communication device.
