Request for Rubbish Bin
It has been requested by Newmont Mine Operations that a rubbish bin be installed at the car park by the Mine Education Centre in Moresby Avenue.
RESOLVED
THAT a rubbish bin be installed in the car park outside the Mine Education Centre, Moresby Ave, Waihi after the 1st of July 2004, and that the mining company be asked to consider making a donation towards the cost of installing a bin.

Whiritoa Tennis Club – Whiritoa Sport & Recreational Reserve
A letter from the Whiritoa Tennis Club was presented requesting the Committee grant remission of the annual rental of the courts. As the courts are mainly patronised by Club members, and the not the general public, it has been requested that annual rental for the use of the Courts on club days be reviewed.

THAT the correspondence be received
AND THAT the Committee grant remission of Clause C of the Agreement with the Whiritoa Tennis Club for the year commencing 1 April 2004 – 31 March 2005.

Gilmour Lake Development Proposal
A report was presented regarding the Gilmour Lake - Landscape Development proposal.
RESOLVED
THAT the amended Design Report for Gilmour Reserve, as attached, and the detailed design drawings and cost estimates for the development of Gilmour Reserve be deferred until the next meeting of the Ward Committee in July.

REQUESTS FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (20.030.002)
The Waihi Ward committee was allocated $4000 for discretionary grants for this financial year. Grants totalling $1645.55 were made at the August - November Ward committee meetings, leaving a balance of $2354.45.
A letter was received from the Secretary of Senior Net Waihi asking for a grant to help them provide a service to senior citizens.
RESOLVED
THAT the request be received
AND THAT Senior Net Waihi be thanked for their letter and that they be informed that Council does contribute grants from time to time subject to justification of the requirements for funding as per Council Policy.

Work Programmed for May
Progress on the improvements to the Golden Valley/Ngatitangata Road intersection was queried. The Roading Manager advised that delays had been experienced in relocation of services and the matter is being taken up with the service authorities.
Seddon Street Motors by School Lane
Arrangements will be made for a repair constructed slightly lower than road surface to be rectified.
Corbett Road
It was advised that the improvements to Corbett Road have been well received.

Wastewater
Closed Circuit Television Investigation
The Utilities Manager presented closed circuit television photographs illustrating pipe breakages and cracking in glazed earthenware pipes throughout the district. It was reported that a replacement programme has been allowed for in the LTCCP.
Refuse Transfer Station
The potential savings achievable by use of an excavator to provide compaction for refuse and greenwaste at the Waihi Transfer Station was discussed. The Utilities Manager advised that compaction could possibly reduce transport costs by about $30,000 p.a.
Abandoned Vehicles and Dumped Car Bodies
The Utilities Manager outlined possible cost benefits in providing encouragement for the public to dispose of car bodies. A voucher is available from Council offices that permits free disposal of stripped vehicles subject to conditions. It was proposed that this voucher system be abandoned, creating a saving in administration time and materials, and that Council approve the free acceptance of stripped car bodies at the Waihi and Paeroa Transfer Stations.
RESOLVED
THAT the present stripped car body disposal voucher system be abandoned as of the 1st July 2004 for a trial period of six months.
AND THAT the current charge for stripped car body disposal at the Waihi and Paeroa RTS sites be reduced to zero, with unstripped car body disposal priced at $25.00 each as from 1st July 2004 for a trial period of 6 months.
AND THAT commercial quantities may only be accepted by prior arrangement with the District Engineer.

Used Tyres
A proposal outlining an alternative option for the disposal of used tyres in the district including charges was presented.
RESOLVED
THAT clean tyres (off rims) be accepted at the Waihi and Paeroa RTS sites from 1st July 2004 for a trial period of 6 months at a charge of:
Car tyres $3.00 each
4WD tyres $4.00 each
Truck tyres $8.00 each
Tractor tyres $21.00 each
AND THAT commercial quantities may only be accepted by prior arrangement with the District Engineer.
