The item was not on the agenda because the item was unavailable at the agenda deadline.

COMMUNITY SERVICES

COMMUNITY FACILITIES MANAGERS MONTHLY REPORT (01.002.021) (24KB)

The Community Facilities Manager presented the monthly report on activities for the Committee’s consideration.

RESOLVED

THAT the Community Facilities Managers report be received.

Hall Chairs

It was advised that the offer to the Waikino Hall Committee of surplus chairs from the Waihi Memorial Hall were accepted with much appreciation. The new chairs are now in the Memorial Hall and look great.

Gilmour Reserve – Entranceway Sculptures

The Community Facilities Manager presented the re-submitted designs and quotation of $15,000 from Trevor Heighway and Pam Griffin for their sculpture designs. Previous designs had been submitted to the 14 June meeting.

The concept of the entranceway markers (the two slabs of carved stone) which are to be placed on either side of the entranceway was proposed. The members indicated that they supported the concept of the sculptures as entrance markers.

RESOLVED

THAT the two slabs of stone be positioned on either side of the entranceway,y as detailed in the report

AND THAT the design for Entranceway Markers to Gilmour Reserve submitted by Trevor Heighway and Pam Griffin, as attached to the report, be accepted. Further, that the markers be included in the initial scoping as part of Stage 2 of the Gilmour Reserve Development.

Deferred Projects

The Community Facilities Manager requested that the Committee approve the deferment of the landscaping at the entranceway to Whiritoa and new play equipment at Morgan Park until the 2005/06 financial year.

THAT the deferred projects, as detailed, be carried forward to the 2005/06 financial year.

Waihi Walkway Group

Ms Ruth Ordish Benner was in attendance and presented a report updating the Committee on general matters relating to the Waihi Walkways.

Ngai Koi Domain and Bridge to Bridge Walkway

Discussion was held regarding the funding of the development of the walkway. The Committee indicated their support for this project but were not in a position to make any commitment as this stage.

 

REQUESTS FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (20.030.002) (32KB)

A report was presented from the Community Liaison Officer outlining requests for financial assistance.

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received.

Waihi Budget Service Inc. (IM219369)

The Waihi Budget Service requested the Committees’ consideration towards a grant to assist with the cost of their office rent.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward grants a sum of $500.00 as a contribution towards the cost of their office rent to be funded from the Ward Discretionary Fund.

Waihi Community Resource Centre Inc.(IM220126)

The Waihi Community Resource Centre requested the Committees’ consideration towards a grant of $4362.00 to assist with the running of their group programme for adolescents at the Centre and the waiver of hall hire fees to hold functions at the Memorial Hall and Events Centre.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward grants a sum $1,000.00 to assist with the running of the Resource Centre’s youth discos to be funded from the Ward Discretionary Fund.

Waihi Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Inc. (IM224301)

The Waihi SPCA requested the Committees’ consideration and comment towards the proposed purchase of a purpose-built concrete block kennel for the organisation.

The Community Liaison Officer presented information on sound-proof kennels and tabled additional information on an electronic device used to stop dogs barking.

It was suggested the dog kennel be trialled initially and that as a long term solution to reduce noise levels, that the installation of a concrete block wall be considered. It was requested that investigations into the costs of installing a wall be undertaken to determine its effectiveness. It was suggested the funding be sourced from the Dog Control Account.

After further discussion on what was the best option to be considered, the Committee then decided that the "Good Neighbour Barker Breaker" device be purchased and trialled. It was agreed that the Community Liaison Officer organise the trial of the device, and if this was ineffective, that the other options mentioned be considered.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward support the purchase and trial of a "Good Neighbour Barker Breaker" device to be funded from the Dog Control Account.

LATE ITEMS

REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (20.030.002)

Rotary Club of Waihi Inc. (225835)

The Community Liaison Officer tabled a request received from the Rotary Club of Waihi stating that they will be holding the performance of the "Last Night at the Proms" production by the Aotea Youth Symphony Orchestra at the Memorial Hall on Saturday, 3 September 2005. They seek the Committee’s support of assistance towards the hall hire fee and crockery hire for the function.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward grant $145.00 towards the hall and crockery hire from the Ward Discretionary Fund.
