A draft programme for urban kerb and channel and new footpath construction was presented by the District Engineer. Mr Darren Gilbertson, OPUS Team leader for HDC Network Management and Mr Carl Staples, OPUS Operations Supervisor for HDC Network Management were present to assist with the workshop.
It was explained that the prioritisation for the draft programme had been done on the basis of technical considerations, of which average daily traffic and the existence of a road drainage need carried 80% of the weighting. It was intended that the workshop serve the purpose of adding the consideration of community support to the prioritisation process. The meeting supported a proposal that community support be included in the prioritisation formula.
Members were invited to indicate areas which they considered were a priority for new kerb and channel and footpaths in the Waihi Ward and that the members submit their priorities to the District Engineer by the end of the week.
