MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
Waihi Streetscape – Historic Scene Panels (02.631.999)
The Community Services Manager was asked how the negotiation were progressing to replace the poor quality artwork. Cr Baker suggested that the panels showing the historic scenes should be painted over until they can be replaced. Staff said that they would consider that as a possibility depending on how long the overall replacement was going to take.
Gilmour Reserve - Heritage Walkway
The Community Services Manager advised that bollards will be placed across the back of the Heritage Walkway carparking area off Clarke Street.

The Community Services Manager’s monthly report on matters of interest and various activities was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

THAT the Community Services Manager’s report be received.

Waihi Memorial Hall
The Community Liaison Officer highlighted an incident that had occurred over the last month where the louver windows for the hall basement were broken. Two panes outside the stage changing room were also smashed and have been replaced.
It was advised that to assist in preventing this vandalism security lighting be installed on the side of each wall at the rear of the building and that the two trees located at the rear of the library be removed.
RESOLVED
THAT the cost of $1674.00 be approved for the repair of the broken windows
AND THAT security lighting be installed
AND THAT the two trees at the rear of the library be removed.

REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (20.030.002)
Rotary Club of Waihi (IM245171)
A request was presented from the Rotary Club of Waihi seeking the Committee’s consideration towards the waiver of the hire fee for the Memorial Hall at a cost of $215.00. They wish to hold their Book Fair on Queens Birthday Weekend from 2-4 June 2006.
RESOLVED
THAT the waiver of the hall hire fee of $215.00 for the Waihi Rotary Club be approved.

Waihi Athletic Rugby Football Club (IM245155)
A request was presented from the Club seeking sponsorship in support of their business house sponsorship scheme to support player and coach development in the Waihi and Waihi Beach areas. They seek to have all businesses participate at $100 (plus GST) per business.
RESOLVED
THAT the request be declined as the Ward Committee do not wish to become involved in supporting actual programmes at club level.

Waihi Cemetery : Memorial Wall
The Community Services Manager presented the concept design for the Waihi Lions Club proposed memorial wall to be installed in the Waihi Cemetery.
After discussion, the Committee agreed that coloured double sized bricks could be a good proposition for the construction of the wall. However this proposal needs to be discussed with the Loins club.
Ngatikoi Reserve : Extension of Walking Track
Newmont Waihi Operations had expressed an interest to extend the walking track in the Ngatikoi Reserve from where it currently mounts the crest of the ridge of the lower (northernmost) shoulder of the hill, prior to turning southwards and running up to the hilltop lookout. Attached was an aerial photograph of the general position and direction of the track extension work. Approval for the extension was requested.

THAT the work as described be approved.

Meeting of Sport n Action Waihi
Cr Wightman advised that a facilitator has been employed by the Trust to assist with the co-ordination for the Sport n Action Waihi strategies.
