The Community Services monthly report on activities was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (20.030.001)

Special Olympics Thames Valley (IM282092)

A request from the co-ordinator for support to keep costs for their regional indoor bowling day to a minimum has been received. The applicant advises that they will be holding the annual event in the Paeroa War Memorial Hall on the 28 July 2007 starting at 10:00am. The event caters for approximately 60 intellectually disabled athletes. Councillors are invited to attend.

Cost for use of the hall is $135.00.

RESOLVED

THAT a contribution of $100.00 from the Waihi Ward Discretionary Fund be given towards the cost of holding this event.

CAPITAL PROJECT SUMMARY

Morgan Park – Players shelter

After discussions held with the clubs concerned, it was decided that one shelter would be provided on the Baker Street side of the park.

The Ward Committee agreed to the Waihi Soccer Clubs request that they be able to connect a cable to the power box in the Morgan park toilets to provide power to the club rooms on the condition that, if the club room facility was upgraded in the future, the situation would need to be readdressed.

Whiritoa Township Entrance Feature

The Ward Committee agreed to present two of the designs provided to the Whiritoa residents group for their comment.

Whiritoa Tennis Club

The Ward Committee agreed to the installation of a basket ball backboard hoop in the reserve adjoining the Tennis Club. The actual positioning of the hoop will be left to the discretion of the Parks and Reserves Manager.

DRAFT FOOTPATH FORWARD WORK PROGRAMME (FWP) 2007/08

Emergency Evacuation Signage Waihi Community Resource Centre

The Waihi Community Resource Centre (WCRC) has requested permission to erect a sign in the Council carpark as stated in their letter dated 27th June 2007 (appendix 1, document No 281906). This type of sign is generally installed within the site property, however in this case the site suggested may be the most practical option.

The signage location will be confirmed with the Resource Centre on site and the Network Maintenance contractor will be tasked to supply and install the sign. The estimated cost is $150 per sign, to be funded from the Waihi Ward unallocated budget.

THAT the signage location be confirmed on site for installation by the Network Maintenance Contractor

AND THAT the cost of the installation be funded by the District Waihi Ward Unallocated budget

WHIRITOA STORM WATER, TIDAL REACH SUBDIVISION (01.011.028)

A report was presented from the District Engineer regarding the request to pipe a length of an open drain and the completion of kerb and channel at the Tidal Reach subdivision development at Whiritoa.

RESOLVED

THAT the report be received

AND THAT the length of 35m of open drain from the Tidal Reach entrance to the existing piped network be piped with 300mm diameter concrete pipe, at an estimated cost of $9,000

AND THAT the developer (Tidal Reach Ltd) be required to fund half ($4,500) of the cost of piping the open drain

AND THAT the kerb and channel be funded from the Road Upgrading contribution with the balance being funded by the Waihi Ward Non subsidised K&C account.

LATE ITEMS OF BUSINESS

APPLICATION FOR ROAD CLOSURE – 25TH AUGUST 2007. – WAIHI ART AND INDUSTRY EXPO, AUGUST 25TH AND 26TH (40.00.500)

Go Waihi have applied for an application for road closure of the north side of Seddon Street between Hazard Street and Mueller street with traffic being able to drive right around the roundabouts at each end. The businesses directly affected are the Waihi Information Centre, Go Waihi, Salvation Army, D M Stuart, Video Easy, Art Market and Clark & Gay who have all consented in writing to the closure. The Police also have no objection.

RESOLVED

THAT the application for road closure be received

AND THAT the closure of the north side of Seddon Street between Hazard Street and Mueller Street be allowed on the 25th August 2007 subject to the usual conditions being applied.
