Whiritoa Entranceway Upgrade

The Parks and Reserve Manager advised that the Whiritoa Liaison Committee were met on site to discuss the entrance way plans. They advised they do not favour the surfboard sign concept for the entranceway design, and have suggested that a sign in the shape of a wave is more preferable. The Committee have indicated they are agreeable to the plantings suggested by the Design Company.

Morgan Park – Skatepark

The Parks and Reserves Manager advised that a Waihi College - Teacher Aide who is involved with youth has agreed to be part of the Skatepark User Group. The Teacher Aide has suggested that it would also be beneficial if a Councillor from the Waihi Ward and the Parks and Reserves Manager be involved in the User Group. It was explained that the purpose of the Group is to receive feedback from local youth as to the use of recreational reserves and what they wish to see provided at the skatepark facility.

It was agreed that no further development of the skatepark be considered until after the school holidays and until there has been a significant reduction in vandalism.

After further discussion, it was agreed that Cr Hayden be appointed to act as Council representative on the User Group.

Waihi Walkways

The Parks and Reserves Manager updated the members on work proposed by the Walkways group to extend the walkway from Riverbank Terrace around to Rosemont Road once the group have improved the length of the grass on the walkway to a stage that the Council can maintain it. This area will then be mowed by Council on a regular basis.

Pump House Entrance

The cost of kerbing, sealing and associated works the Council has agreed to do in conjunction with the Gold Company to upgrade the public walking access to the pumphouse site and other areas beyond was presented at a cost of $19,500. The work will also consist of landscaping and the installation of bollards near the Seddon Street roundabout and a concrete kerb on one side and a wooden edge on the other side.

The members considered that as this area is of significant tourist interest, the entranceway should be upgraded to a high standard which would require concrete kerbing to be installed on both sides of the road. Therefore, it was agreed that extra funding be allocated for this purpose.

RESOLVED

THAT funding of $19,500 is approved for the upgrade of the walkway with installation of kerbing to one side of the sealed pavement and that it be funded from the Waihi Community Recreational Facilities Development Fund

AND THAT funding for the additional kerbing works be approved.
