THAT the minutes of the meeting of the Waihi Ward Committee held on Tuesday 11 September 2007 date of previous meeting (normal)be taken as read and confirmed.

The Community Services monthly report on activities is attached for the Committee’s consideration.

RECOMMENDATION

THAT the Community Services monthly report be received.

REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The Waihi Ward Committee has been allocated $7000 for discretionary grants during this financial year. The Committee has allocated $500 to Whiritoa Surf Life Saving Club, $100 to Thames Valley Special Olympics, $795.00 to Waihi Summer Festival, $200 to Waihi Community Resource Centre, $300 to Bill Doyle, $160 to Creative Waihi, and $105 to Bosom Buddies leaving a balance of $4,840.00.

WAIHI ROTARY CLUB –WAIHI MEMORIAL HALL [IM289170]

A letter from the Secretary advising Council that the club has hired the hall for a public meeting to create awareness of prostrate cancer to be held in the hall on 7 November 2007.

The club asks for the grant of $55.00 to cover hall hireage.

RECOMMENDATION

THAT consideration be given to this request.

Waikino Liason Committee

A request has been received from the Committee for help in beautifying the Domain entrance. They would like Council staff to grind down the stumps of the trees removed last year. A request has also been received for $1000 for their annual planting project.

RECOMMENDATION

THAT consideration be given to these requests.

6. GENERAL BUSINESS

6.1 ROADING REPORT FOR OCTOBER 2007 (01.001.029) 11-14

Attached is a report from the Roading Manager regarding two roading matters for the Committee’s consideration.

Mine Pit Fun Run/Walk

An application has been received from Rachael Walker of Project Energise on behalf of St Josephs School Waihi to hold this event on Saturday 3rd November 2007. A copy of the application is shown as appendix 1.

RECOMMENDATION

THAT funding from the Waihi Minor Work budget be approved to meet the approximately $800 costs of the Traffic Management Plan for the Mine Pit Fun Run/Walk.

Renaming Upper Waitete Road

Cr Mike Hayden has requested that the merits of renaming the portion of Waitete Road from the road fork be considered. Some confusion exists and could escalate as traffic increases. An attachment is provided to illustrate.

RECOMMENDATION

THAT the merits of renaming a portion of Waitete Road be considered.
