Victoria Park - Rocket Slide
The Parks and Reserves Manager advised of an incident which had recently occurred at the Victoria Park Rocket Slide where a pre-school child had fallen through the gap between the top of the ladder and the slide. It was advised that permanent adjustments to the design are presently being considered to improve the safety of the structure and as a temporary measure; a metal plate has been installed to prevent young children falling through the gap.
Gilmore Park
The eradication of roosters in the park has commenced due to the nuisance they are causing to member’s of the public and the general area of the reserve. It was advised that the birds are being left there by the public and have significantly increased in numbers. A reduction of the Canadian geese population in the park will also be carried out shortly.
Memorial Seat :Gilmore Park
The members were shown photographs of the Kauri memorial seat which has been completed by a craftsman and donated by the Gainsford family in memory of a past family member who was an active member of the Waihi community. The members were requested to consider the most appropriate area for its placement in the park.
Following discussion, it was agreed that the seat be positioned in the area looking across the lake towards the stage and that it be mounted onto a concrete pad.

Pumphouse Entrance Landscaping Project
The Parks and Reserves Manager presented a copy of the landscape plan for the entrance to the pumphouse which detailed the proposed plantings for the wall area, the area above the entrance road and the proposed planting for the area below the road. The Landscape Company has advised the cost of restoring the rock wall is $13,000 and the cost of the plants will be approx $3,000. The planting below the road is to link in with the streetscape theme of a ‘vein of gold’ running through the garden as is portrayed on the paving at the frontage of the Memorial Hall.
It was considered that more discussion is required with the Landscape Company and Newmont to reach agreement on the final landscape plan and costs relating to the work at the entranceway.
It was therefore requested that the Parks and Reserves Manager and the Ward members meet with the Landscape Company and Mr Mark Samson of Newmont to review the landscape plan and to reach an agreement of funding towards the project. It was requested that the Parks and Reserves Manager organise a meeting for all parties concerned for Friday 14 September, to meet at 11.00am at the pumphouse entrance site.
