MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
Morgan Park - Soccer Field Shelter
The Mayor suggested that this matter be put on hold as it was considered that a shelter would not add any value to the park. The Chief Executive suggested that he speak with the Soccer Club to see if they considered a shelter was necessary.
Management of Events Centre
In regards to the discussion held at the previous meeting about whether the Sport n Action Trust should manage the Events Centre, it was agreed that further consideration be given to this matter by staff.

REQUEST FOR CHANGE TO HALL HIRE CHARGE – WAIHI MARTHA MARKET
A letter has been received from Jenny West on behalf of the Waihi Martha Market group requesting a change to the rate that they are charged for the hireage of the Waihi Hall. Presently the group is charged a commercial rate, which is $20.00 per hour for 6 hours, plus $5.00 for the use of the kitchen facilities. They are requesting that this is changed to a non profit rate which would be $7.50 per hour for 6 hours plus $10.00 for the use of the kitchen facilities. Attached was a financial statement for the Waihi Martha market.

THAT as the group is a non-profit organisation they be charged accordingly.

REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
The Waihi Ward Committee has been allocated $7000 for discretionary grants during this financial year. To date the Committee has allocated $500 to Whiritoa Surf Life Saving Club, $100 to Thames Valley Special Olympics, $795.00 to Waihi Summer Festival, $200 to Waihi Community Resource Centre, $300 to Bill Doyle, $160 to Creative Waihi, $105 to Bosom Buddies, $55 to Waihi Rotary, $75 to Waihi Ministers Association and a further $295 to Creative Waihi leaving a balance of $4,415.00.
ECHO WALK FEST [392823]
The Hauraki Coordinator wrote advising that the committee has planned 23 guided walks during 19~27 April. The guided walks are free and range from the shorter 2 hour walks to the more challenging 4~5 hour hikes. The coordinator seeks financial assistance for the promotion and marketing of this event.

THAT the Waihi Ward matches the grant contributed by the Paeroa Ward of $250.00 towards the Echo Walk Fest.

Waikino Liaison Committee - Reinstatement of Swing Bridge

The Community Services Manager advised of correspondence received from the Secretary of the Waikino Liaison Committee requesting that Council consider the reinstatement of the swing bridge located opposite the Waikino Tavern that was washed away in the 1981 flood. They also request that a layby area be developed opposite the Waikino Victora Hall nearby for a commemorative plaque to be placed to acknowledge this historic event.
After consideration of these requests, it was decided that they be reconsidered following a meeting scheduled to be held with Council and the Waikino Liaison Committee and that Mr Homer Stubbs, as representative of the Liaison Committee, be advised of this decision.
WAIHI WALKWAYS
Ruth Ordish and Carol Spiers were in attendance on behalf of the Waihi Walkways team to outline past projects completed and several projects they wish to undertake during the coming year.

Ms Ordish requested the Ward’s support to proceed with the Silverton Walkway incorporating the track though to the Silverton Battery be approved.
The member’s gave their support to the Waihi Walkways group proceeding with the Silverton Walkway project.

LATE ITEMS OF BUSINESS
Speed Limit at SH2/Dean Crescent T-Junction
Cr Francis advised of a complaint he had received from school bus drivers from Murphy’s Transport about the danger in pulling out of Dean Crescent onto SH2 into traffic travelling towards Paeroa from Waihi. The bus drivers have asked that Council consider lodging a request with Transit NZ that the speed limit on SH2 at this location be reduced from the present speed limit of 100kph.
The Chief Executive suggested the matter be raised with the District Engineer and that the bus drivers concerned formally write to Council outlining their concerns regarding the speed limit at this section of SH2.
Pine Trees - Heard Road
Cr Francis raised an issue brought to his attention by a resident of Heard Road concerned of the nuisance the pine trees located at the top end of Heard Road are causing. They are dropping debris onto the road which they consider may cause a road safety issue and request that they be removed.
The members were advised that the Roading Manager is presently investigating whether these trees are an issue to the use of the road.
The meeting closed at 3.40pm.
