RESOLVED

THAT pursuant to Section 46A(7) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, the following late items be accepted for discussion.

- Request for placement of plaque on dump truck in memory of Guy Spurr

The item was not on the agenda because the item was unavailable at the time of the agenda deadline.

Discussion on the item could not be delayed because the correspondent required a decision on the matter as soon as possible.

- Permission to paint mural at Rocket Ship Park (verbal item)

The item was not on the agenda because the item was received following the agenda deadline.

Discussion on the item could not be delayed because the item required the consideration of the Ward Committee as soon as practicable.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

Heard Road Trees on Road Reserve

Cr Baker raised his concern regarding the number of newly planted trees on the road reserve along upper Heard Road. He requested that the District Engineer evaluate if these trees are likely to be a potential hazard to the safety of the road in future and report back to the Ward Committee.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICES

COMMUNITY SERVICES MONTHLY REPORT (414580) (39KB)

The Community Services monthly report on activities was presented for the Committee’s consideration.

RECOMMENDATION

THAT the Community Services monthly report be received.

REQUESTS FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The Waihi Ward Committee has been allocated $7000 for discretionary grants during this 2008/09 financial year.

WAIHI & WAIHI BEACH HEALTHCARE SUPPORT GROUP INC. [414664]

The Chairman of the Support Group writes (copy email to Cr. Hayden attached) advising that they have been set up to support General Practitioners (GP’s) in the area. Over the past 5 years they have raised money to fund relocation costs, buy household appliances, training courses, equipment etc.

The Chairman also advises that they do not receive funding from the Health Board anymore and asks for financial assistance which they would ensure was spent within the Waihi Ward.

It was agreed that more background information regarding the request was needed before any further consideration could be given by the Committee.

RESOLVED

THAT the group be requested to provide more detailed information in support of their request, i.e. what the purpose is for the funding and what amount of funding is required.

ST JAMES WAIHI [415825 and 416983]

The Treasurer for the Waihi Presbyterian Church advises that they have painted their wooden church building. This building was registered in 1983 with the Historic Places Trust and has a category II classification (register number 732).

The Treasurer advises that they had to repay a grant of $1500 from the Lion Foundation as they had already completed the work and seeks financial assistance from Council to keep the building maintained.

The members believed that it was the responsibility of the Presbyterian Church to maintain their own buildings.

RESOLVED

THAT with due respect, the request be declined on the grounds that it is not Councils role to assist in maintaining church buildings.

WAIHI MINISTERS ASSOCIATION [407767]

The Secretary for the association writes advising that they are planning an inter-denominational service in the Waihi Memorial Hall on Sunday 31 August 2008.

The secretary asks if Council will waive the $100 hall hire fee.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward Committee grants $100.00 to the Waihi Ministers Association to cover the hall hire fee for their function to be held all on Sunday 31 August 2008.

SPORT ’N’ ACTION WAIHI [417693] (21KB)

The SnAW Development Officer writes advising that they are hosting a fundraising concert at the Waihi Memorial Hall on the 23 August 2008. The Trust proposes to raise funds for a local athlete to travel to the World Duathlon Camps in Rimini, Italy. Activities such as opera, disco and dancing, with music provided by local personalities are programmed for this concert.

The Development Officer asks if Council would contribute to the cost of the hire for the hall; the fee being $128.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward Committee grants $128.00 to Sport n Action Waihi to cover the hall hire fee for their fundraising function to be held on 23 August 2008.

LATE ITEM

Permission to paint mural at Rocket Ship Park (verbal item)

The Community Services Manager presented a request from a local artist who seeks the Wards permission to paint a mural at Rocket Ship Park as part of his community service requirement.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward Committee approve the request for seeking permission to paint a mural at Rocket Ship Park and that Cr Baker be permitted to supervise the painting project.

GENERAL BUSINESS

ROADING REPORT - JULY 2008 (CR MEYERS) (418790) (23KB)

Whiritoa Bus Shelter

A number of examples of bus shelters were shown in appendix 1 with estimated costs provided. The cost will be subsidised through Environment Waikato (EW) and Land Transport NZ at an assistance rate to be formally advised but expected to be 50% of the total installation cost.

The Committee was requested to consider the options and choose the most appropriate bus shelter for the site.

The members requested that a re-locatable type of shelter be purchased so that it can easily be relocated to another site if needed. It was agreed that the Kiwi Series Model Kiwi B49 - 3.5m x 1.45m (Cubical) was the most favoured design.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward Committee approve the Kiwi Series Model Kiwi B49 - 3.5m x 1.45m (Cubical) bus shelter for instalment on Whiritoa Beach Road at a cost of $7,850.00.

LATE ITEMS OF BUSINESS

REQUEST FOR PLACEMENT OF PLAQUE ON DUMP TRUCK IN MEMORY OF GUY SPURR

A request has been received by Kit Wilson requesting the Ward Committee’s consideration to supporting the placement of a plaque on the dump truck located at the viewing site above the Martha Pit in memory of Guy Spurr, an employee of Newmont Waihi Gold who had special interest in long haul heavy trucking, recently passed away.

RESOLVED

THAT the Ward Committee approve that a plaque be placed on the side of the dump truck located at the viewing site above the Martha Pit in memory of Guy Spurr.
