After discussion, it was agreed that Option 2 was preferred for a temporary bus shelter to be installed at the bus stop across the road from the Information Centre. The members also requested that options of a suitable shelter design be further investigated.

CARRIEDHeard Road Tree Removal
The removal of a number of pine trees from the roadside of upper Heard Road has been requested by Mr John Lewis.
The trees were predominantly planted by the Neil Worker Development project. The trees are within the legal road boundaries and have caused a reduction in sun light to at least one property owner namely John Lewis. There are no known records that have given permission for the trees to have been planted or to remain within the legal road.
Mr Lewis has asked Council to have these trees removed some years ago and the price at that time was prohibitive. The responsibility and liability should remain between the property owner and the developer to remove the trees as Council should be able to provide clear evidence that the trees were not self sown or planted by Council. Council would support the removal of the trees as they represent a liability long term to the structural integrity of the road surface and the pavement.
The members considered that the removal of the trees be undertaken only if they were causing a hazard or undermining the structural integrity of the road and that any trees removed be donated to fundraising or charitable organisations.
RESOLVED
THAT the trees be removed gradually as fundraising and/or charitable organisation options became available
AND THAT Mr Lewis be advised accordingly.

CARRIEDStormwater Control Intersection Barry Road/Walmsley Road
The stormwater problem at the intersection of Walmsley Rd/Barry Road has been in existence for at least 8 to 10 years. The property is below road level and the driveway and follows the land contour allowing water to flood the property. Most of the run off comes from the state highway carriageway although the property has its access on Barry Rd. Attachment 3 showed a representation of the stormwater flow direction.
The resident has the garage which flooded at regular intervals. At a site meeting with Cr Baker and the owner several options were discussed but the preferred option was a cut off channel as was shown on the plan. The cost ranges from $50 per metre for PVC proprietary product to a galvanised web grate with an underlying concrete ‘U’ channel which is $512.00 per metre installed.
RESOLVED
THAT the applicant be advised that new kerb and channel is proposed for the 2008/09 year and the site would be reviewed after the installation.
WWC08/32 Francis/Carmine CARRIED
Waihi East School Traffic Management
The Road Safety Coordinator has advised of a concern raised by the Board of Trustees Chairperson of Waihi East School that a pedestrian crossing at Mataura Road is necessary.
The Roading Manager has met with the school Principal and a member of the School Board to view the site following concerns as to the movement of traffic in and out of the site. Attached was a plan of the area along with correspondence received from the Road Safety Co-ordinator and OPUS Consultants recommendations to Council of proposed safety improvements.
The members agreed that the engineering improvements as recommended by OPUS as presented be approved.
RESOLVED
THAT the measures for improvement of traffic management as identified by OPUS Consulting be implemented.
