Hauraki Coromandel Labour Market Strategy
2010 - 2013
The first Hauraki Coromandel Labour Market Strategy was endorsed in 2007 by the
Labour Market Forum. The strategy has since been reviewed for the 2010—2013
period, with updated information to reflect the current labour market
environment.
The New Zealand labour market has undergone a significant transformation over
the past decade. In 2007, the labour market faced challenges such as skill
shortages at the national, regional, and local labour market levels, of which
hindered economic transformation and prosperity. Now in 2010, the labour market
has evolved into an area of uncertainty, where labour reduction or redundancy is
frequent, following the effects of the economic recession of 2009.
The Hauraki Coromandel sub-region faces labour market challenges similar to
those experienced at a national level, but there are also unique characteristics
of the region that create opportunities for growth, and also pose some
difficulties. The intent of this strategy is to identify the issues impacting on
the labour market in Hauraki Coromandel and to develop solutions that are
timely, effective, and encourage collaborative action across
stakeholders in the region. A well functioning labour market in the region will
be a significant contributor to social wellbeing and economic success for all.
This strategy has been developed to help facilitate solutions that are timely
and effective, as well as encourage collaborative action across stakeholders in
the region. A well functioning labour market will be a significant contributor
to social wellbeing and economic success for all.
