Hauraki District Council Achieves Compliance with the Building Consent Authority

Hauraki District Council’s Building Consent Authority (BCA) is one of the first in the local region to pass a second external assessment and has achieved compliance with Regulation 17 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.

In 2007, Hauraki District Council became the 31st Council to officially become a BCA. Now two years later out of 80 accredited BCA’s Hauraki District Council is the 17th Council to pass reassessment of Regulations 5 – 16 and has achieved compliance with Regulation 17 well in advance of the required December 2010 achievement date.

The Council was advised of its success early this month after the BCA Team successfully concluded its Reassessment Audit by International Accreditation NZ (IANZ), and received their new certificates which are proudly on display at each of the Council’s Service Centres in Paeroa, Waihi and Ngatea.

The audit checks to see if the BCA is actually doing what it says it is doing, and confirms that it is following the best practice procedures and the quality control requirements of the Building Act Regulations 2006.

“We had to prove during the audit that we were meeting the 12 regulations fully and consistently,” explains Peter Thom, Council’s Planning and Environmental Services Manager. “This means that our ratepayers can have increased confidence in Council’s ability to consistently deliver the services we say we can deliver. External confirmation of the competence and effectiveness of the building control functions is a key element in Council’s risk management process.”

“The whole team has worked hard to get this result,” says Peter, “and they can be justly proud of the service they offer to our community. “Hauraki District ratepayers can be assured that the Hauraki District Council’s building services are up there with the best of them.”
