The grounding of the Rena off the coast of Tauranga and the resulting oil spill is being managed by Maritime New Zealand. Should the Hauraki District Council be required to assist as a support agency it is most likely that we will receive direction from the Waikato Regional Council and act accordingly. If you wish to know more about the Tauranga incident you will find information on the Maritime New Zealand website Maritime New Zealand are accepting registrations for Volunteer assistance. If you are interested in assisting please fill out Maritime New Zealand’s online Volunteer Oil Recovery Responders Registration Form The Public Health Service have issued information in
relation to oil on beaches and the risk and management of public health.
