The District Library Building Proposal - Consultation Open

What is this proposal about?

The Hauraki District Council is involved in the Public Libraries activity throughout the district through the provision of three library services at Ngatea, Paeroa and Waihi. It also assists the community libraries at Turua, Kaiaua and Whiritoa by way of annual grant and regular bulk loan of books.

Council is currently looking at building new libraries in Waihi and Paeroa in order to improve their facilities and provide space for the advancement of information technologies. These libraries are currently operating beyond their capacity in terms of floor space and the Waihi Library has been allocated first priority.

The two options proposed by Council for consideration by the public are:

  • Option One: Build new libraries in Waihi in the 2011/12 year and in Paeroa in the 2013/14 year.
  • Option Two: Do nothing. Keep the existing library buildings in Waihi and Paeroa

These options are outlined in more detail in the full proposal.
