Frequently Asked Questions

? When will I get my recycling bin?

Bins will be delivered approximately one to two weeks before the start of the recycling service, which begins on the 1st of July.

? When can I start using my bin?

You can start using your bin from the 1st July. Do not overfill your bin but place it on the verge where you usually put your rubbish bag on your usual rubbish day.

? I will be on holiday the week the bins will be delivered. What arrangements must I make?

The contractors will place the bin inside the fence or over the gate where it should be safe. However, you may want to make arrangements with your neighbour to collect it.

? What do I do if I have too many recyclables for one bin?

Do not overfill your bin. You can put extra plastic bottles in a tied plastic bag beside the bin but otherwise keep extra recyclables until next week. It would not be wise to put out bags of plastic bottles on very windy days.

? My bin has been stolen or has gone missing. What should I do?

Notify the police of the theft. Replacement bins are available but there will be a charge for them.

? Where can I dispose of paint, microwaves, gas bottles and the like?

Contact the waste exchange on 0800 NO THROW or www.nothrow.co.nz
