Walking School Bus - Paeroa Central School

A joint initiative between Paeroa Central School, NZ Police and Hauraki District Council has created a new Walking School Bus to Paeroa Central School.

What is it?

The school has a roster for the teachers to "drive" the bus, picking up children from their front gate anywhere along the set route to the school.  Any keen parent or grand parent is encouraged to participate in escorting the children on their journey to school.

Where?

The bus starts from the top of Porritt Street and travels along Ainslie Road, Aorangi Road, Arney Street and Bennett Street to safely arrive at the Paeroa Central School gates on Nahum Street.

See a map of the route (304KB)

When?

The bus starts at:

8:15am rain or shine every Wednesday.

If you want to be part of the bus to Paeroa Central School please contact Principal Janet Jones (07) 862 8342.

What about other schools?

It would be great to get other schools involved so if your school is interested in finding out more please contact our local Road Safety Co-ordinator, Ingrid Le Fevre on (07) 868 0200.

Remember!

Look out for the Walking School Bus in your area and remember to keep your driveways clear if it is on a Walking School Bus route.

Why is it great?

Safe, convenient, environmentally friendly and kids love them.

Healthier, fitter kids, less traffic around the school and parents spend less money on petrol.

Children, especially 5-8 year olds, learn valuable road safety skills needed to walk independently.

Stronger communities resulting from children and adults on the bus getting to know each other.

Companionship and fun for both parents and children.

Parents get an extra half hour not dropping off or picking up children with peace of mind they are being looked after.
