Public Swimming Pools

Hauraki District Council lifeguards are offering two, two week ‘Learn to Swim’ programmes commencing 2nd of January for children over the age of three or younger depending on demand (similar to last years programme).  Weekend lessons my also be available on demand. Registration will be held at Paeroa, Ngatea or Waihi Pools until Wednesday 28th December for the 1st programme. Cost is $5 per child per lesson or $30 per program (includes entry to the pool). Each lesson is 30 minutes.

Answers to FAQ’s:

• There are two programs being run: 1 starting on Monday the 2nd Jan and the other starting on the 16th of Jan
• They both run for 2 weeks and consist of 6 lessons in total; 3 per week on Mon, Wed and Fri, they run for 30 minutes
• Your children can attend both ‘programs’ and if they do this your children will continue to move up the levels after they have completed them
• Payment is required in advance; last day to pay is either the 2nd of Jan or the 16th depending on what program your child is going to be part of
• Once your child has met the requirements of a level they will move to the next one, which will involve joining a new group; generally this is done at the end of each week, unless they are showing great ability
• Please have your child in their togs and ensure they are ready go at least 10 minutes before their scheduled lesson, this ensures there is no time wasted.
• There are 5 levels in total and completion of level five would mean your child can swim 50m of Freestyle, Breaststroke and Backstroke. Level 1 focuses on children who are not very confident in the water and need help to put their head under for example.
