Justices of the Peace
Te Kāhui Pou whakatau ture o Aotearoa
Do you need a JP?
A Justice of the Peace (JP) may be required to certify copies of documents, witness a signature on a document, or perhaps complete an affidavit or declaration.
Free Weekly Clinics
Free weekly JP Clinics are available at Council Service Centres in Ngātea and Waihī. We do not make appointments, it is a first in first seen arrangement.
Waihī – Mondays (public holidays excluded) from 11am – 1pm (Two JP’s available)
Ngātea – Tuesdays from 12noon – 1pm (One JP available)
No weekly clinics are held in Paeroa. Please contact a JP directly.
Local JPs are rostered to cover the Clinics in each town. When they are “in the house” JP flags will be flown outside. People are welcome to drop in and the JPs will assist you as time permits.
It is helpful if clients are suitably prepared, for instance: by bringing a form of photo ID in case it is needed, and bringing original documents as well as copies if the copies need to be certified. Documents should not be signed beforehand.
Contacting a JP directly
If your matter is urgent you can locate a JP directly. Find their contact details by looking on the website of the Royal Federation of NZ Justices' Associations.
