Expressions of Interest - District Licensing Committee Member
The Hauraki District Council is seeking expressions of interest from people interested in being members of the District Licensing Committee (DLC). As a member of the DLC you will be responsible for making decisions on contested alcohol licensing applications throughout the Hauraki District (applications that go to a Hearing).
Where meetings of the full DLC are required the committee members will be appointed from the list of members, as is deemed most appropriate by the Council. Therefore, no guarantee of regular hours can be given to list members of the Committee.
The Council is looking for people in the community who have a wide range of expertise and skills including:
- An understanding of the community and its expectations around alcohol licensing.
- Highly developed investigative skills and decision making ability.
- Understanding and the application of legislation.
- Knowledge and understanding of hearings procedure; e.g. Resource Management Act hearings.
- Strong communication skills.
- Relevant alcohol licensing experience in previous roles.
- Knowledge of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and alcohol related harm.
To be eligible you cannot:
- Have an involvement, or the appearance of involvement with the alcohol industry.
- Be a member of the Police, a Medical Officer of Health, an inspector or an employee of Council.

Successful applicants will be provided technical guidance and training. Expressions of Interest open on 01 October 2024 and close on 31 October 2024.
